Mclaren P1 Spotted

The EVO article, on their app contains an account of them joining the McLaren team at the Ring.
It concludes with this;
Goodwin does so for the remainder of the lap and as we peel back into the pit lane, I’m convinced, as is he, that the P1 isn’t just a seven-minute car but one that will go comfortably under that. We may never find out by how much, though. While McLaren will later confirm that the P1 did indeed beat its 7:00 target, it will reveal no more than that. However, if the stars aligned, and Goodwin kept his foot in, you can bet the lap made the Porsche 918’s mark of 6:57 seem a little pedestrian.
No matey that is not the article I was told about .It concludes with this;

This one specifically states evo were meant to go on the record run and were told at the last minute that mac would not be releasing a time .
Sounds odd no?
Seems to me that the Ring time "issue" is a stupid affair.
Granted, Ron was probably being far too glib when he was boasting about the time. All that achieved was to build up expectations.
But if Mclaren take a considered approach , in the cold light of day, then it is probably right that they do not publish a time. It is in no-ones interests to create a "ring time war" , which could only lead to tragedy. There seems little to gain from an ever concentrated battle to shave a few tenths. There is no sound engineering reason to do it. And no logical commercial reason to do it either.
Ron Dennis didn't help by bigging up this issue. But it is probably right for McLaren to refuse to play the game.
And I do not believe for a moment that Mclarens position is based on their car not being fast enough. Given the aero advances the P1 carries, I do not doubt for a moment that is well under 7'.
Not that it really matters anyway. It certainly does not matter to me.

Thanks to those who clarified what wtdoom was referring to.

Lead to tragedy? Really?
Yes, people die on race tracks pushing the limits and sometimes even when they are not. There's no trophy or prize money awarded for the Ring lap record so no one should feel the need to blatantly risk their lives for one.>8^)

I love a fast car me and while it may make Ron and his claims look a little stupid ( and some of the reasons presented are downright laughable ) thinking about it this may actually be a brilliant move from mclaren .
Let me explain . I think the ring wars are producing very fast a to b weapons however the human element is being lost , the interaction etc . Perhaps we can now see the return of the drivers car if this was the bell at the end of the 12th round of the cursed nurburgring lap time wars then good bloody riddance .
With any luck we may have to all congratulate mclaren after all , not for being the fastest round the ring but for ( hopefully) a much greater victory ; ushering in a new era of modern real "drivers car" .
Mclaren f1 part 2 anyone ? Oh yes please sir !

That is putting a rather charitable spin on things if evo are indeed correct about this. I say this as someone who is rather fond of the 12c but there can be no doubt mclaren have quite spectacularly goofed this whole ring time business up. Unfortunately, I very much doubt as well this will mark the end of the lap time war and the return of the purer drivers car. Chances are, all this marks is a very embarrassing own goal by Mclaren and a continuation of the current trend of increasingly electronics heavy track monsters....Let me explain . We don't. Enough said and problem permanently solved
I'm not going to celebrate because it is really pretty sad that someone in his position chooses to act that way. In any event, it was the right decision. >8^)

I don't disagree with the Evo piece and I know the 'ring well (and have a German court conviction for an offence on the 'ring to prove it).
However, I find it impossible to believe that the numerically obsessed McLaren could have beaten Porsche but chosen not to release it, especially when that was the sole purpose of their many visits.
The concept that they 'could' beat it is irrelevent. 'Could' and 'have' are two very different things indeed.

Didn't iirc gallardoguy call him out as working at a dealership somewhere? Or was that a guess GG?
Seemed obvious really. IME stratospherically wealthy people never refer to what they own or what they're worth. They also don't sit around on the internet patronising people, stroking their own egos and justifying themselves and their purchases. Their lives just aren't that small.wtdoom said:
He is not in the trade gents.
They are his cars .
So if you know him are you able to confirm....They are his cars .
Is he such a warrior without a keyboard in front of him?
His general attitude sucks and he really does himself no favours, lots of money does not automatically equal 'likeable' with his apparent level of self importance. Shame for him really as it's quite a list.
