My 12c has been perfect in the past 7 months (2013 Spider)

I'm struggling to understand if they even road tested it properly after the new gearbox...

If my start to 12c ownership had been like this I'd have handed it back & run a mile!

Well today mine is now going back to McLaren. No gears...forward or back...no nothing accept the alarm going off in the car telling me it was in limp mode which would be fine if I had any gears !! Roadside say the main ECU unit has failed plus a load of other codes which means it has to go back to McLaren in Ascot by low loader. ....but they cannot collect the car till Tuesday FFS! Oh the joys of a supercar!

They have plenty spare by the looks of things last time I passed, (circa 15) perhaps they could loan you one?

I'd be twisting their arm right up their back to get a good deal considering the issues on your 12C wink

Is it bad luck though? Or is it poor build quality?

I don't know if I would dismiss any major mechanical failure on a 6 month old £200k car as bad luck.
The cars are all hand built with care using parts that meet McLaren standards. Any parts, even for the slightest reason that aren't up to scratch are sent back to the supplier. The cars all go through a strict quality process before leaving.

The car is after all used, so you never know, damage of some sort could have been caused during the previous ownership. However, regardless of that, it is a shame you have experienced this on your first McLaren.

Hopefully all is sorted soon!
