Thank you for all the assistance in my "basic questions" thread. I have decided I would prefer a spider but budget allows only for the following 2 cars. I would appreciate views on the relative merits of the spec: which would you buy?

For the sake of comparison, assume both are a popular colour (subjective) and both are available at the same price. Both have same interior stitch highlights etc.

Car 1
McLaren supplied. 3 owners, 20k miles

Pro's:
12 mth warranty / mc inspected etc
Iris 2
Carbon interior
Super light weight alloys

Cons
3 owners
Mileage
Standard seats (non heated/ elec)

Car 2
Specialist supplied , 1 owner,15k miles

Pros
Mileage/ owners
Heated/ elec seats

Cons
Iris 1
Standard interior (silver) panels ie no carbon

Thank you!

For a 5k miles difference, I would chose car 1 with no hesitation.

The electric heated seats are actually not an advantage as you have more adjustability in the mechanical seats and can go lower. Once it is setup for you, will you really change it (I don't like to share my toys !)

IRIS 2 is a must if you are going to use the car.

Superlightweight wheels are the best looking and a significant improvement in the cars dynamics, shaving 7kg per corners.

And finaly, although a lot of people say they don't care about carbon bits, you will find that cars without the carbon inside are extremely difficult to sale and stay advertised for ages.

That said, I would think you can get a decent discount on car nb 2 ;-)

Does any of them have sports exhaust ?

Car 1 for sure.

non heated seats are an advantage as they are lighter wink. but more seriously they probably have a slight advantage in being a bit lower as well and it's really not an issue just to move it if you need to. The superlight wheels are silly expensive as well to change if you wanted to later (make sure you don't pothole one of those and have to change though...). if the carbon interior bits don't particularly matter to you, personally I'd ask the dealer to swap out the carbon interior and get a better price but that's just me as for resale arguably you are better off sticking with it than not.

Difference between 15k and 20k mileage isn't going to change very much to be honest to a buyer looking for a low mileage car as those who are obsessed with that will want something at definitely <10k.

No sapphire black at McLaren london bought at a good price with some goodies like fitted luggage thrown in.

For posterity and future buyers, this is what I wrote to Alistair, who has the other car- volcano red.

Alistair,

I am now a member of the McLaren family- I have bought the sapphire black spider from Mac london. I am paying xxx with a load of stuff thrown in (luggage, cover etc) plus the other benefits of an approved used car.

I have owned a lot of cars and its painfully difficult to find dealers who are responsive and helpful. You are certainly best in class in that regard and your reputation entirely deserved. Thank you for all your help and assistance, I am sorry we didn't get to shake hands on a. Deal this time. I am quite sure as or when I come to sell the car I will ever calling you.
