That looks awesome if its true but 2018 seems ambitious with other build/projects already in pipeline.

Better get another paper round and start saving

as i said on another thread - Flemke - is this your next McLaren?

A return to the central driving position is a real step forward from the backward step of recent McLarens.... imho makes it far more of an event to drive and the greatest point of difference out there!

On paper that's my perfect car.

It would stop the kids arguing as to which one's turn it was, I'm not adverse to a bit of added luxury and not having the P1 batteries may well prove v.beneficial.

[I predict with significant advancements in battery technology the early P1/Laffa/918 'electric assisted' supercars will look very compromised/less desired in years to come compared to their respective replacements...]

There's just one thing I don't like about it......I can't afford the £££££££'s!

I read elsewhere that there'll be 80 made....... but maybe then another 80 spiders ...... 5 re-manufactured prototypes ...... X special carbon editions ....... Y track only versions [to be converted so as useable on the road] ........... Z Long Tail Le Mans competition version ........

I hope Flemke's got a good supply of his blood pressure tablets wink

I am ambivalent about this car, but for reasons intrinsic to the concept. Unlike the case with some other cars, I think McLaren are perfectly entitled to build it.

If they build this car in homage to the original F1 then rather than 3 seats they need to concentrate more on putting a fantastic V12 engine in there, rather than yet another rehash of the 3.8 turbo.

It's a GT car it seems, so needs a V12 soundtrack and be as good as the BMW V12 as done for the F1 by Paul Rosche.

Otherwise they will seem to be just doing a niche product to make money. Something the original F1 never was. Perhaps that is why Flemke is luke warm about it?

A New F1 with the 3.8 turbo only to be followed by the Spyder version 6 months later? That would be going down the same path too many times. Need to get Gordon Murray back on board for a shake up.

Here's a repeat of what I posted just now on McLaren Life...

The title of the article is rubbish. This car is NOT the replacement for the F1, it is simply a new, very exclusive, McLaren being custom built by MSO in very small numbers and using the same seat layout, and central driving position, as the F1 did. This is what McLaren enthusiasts have been begging them to build for many years. I think the body of the article got most of the facts straight but the headline is misleading. Also the car exterior design will be much prettier than the renderings in the article. It will be a gorgeous, powerful, comfortable car with a center seat driving position - but it is not designed to be a replacement for the F1. There's no desire at McLaren to break top-speed records anymore and they're doing extremely well with the 650S GT3 racing programs so there's no need for this car to race. They want to be a financially successful, and sustainable, car company and the F1 program was neither of those things. They set out to sell 300 F1 road cars but couldn't sell anywhere close to that. This car however, was probably already sold out before the Autocar article. If it wasn't then it most certainly is now. McLaren are not pitching this to people with the idea that this is the new F1. What they're pitching is a showcase of what MSO can do in terms of coach-built craftsmanship.

Take a P1, remove the bank of batteries that sit behind the seats to give you more space in the cabin for a 3 seat set up. That is why the F1 thats being talked about is 200BHP down on a P1.

The P1 wasn't a central seat set up because there would have been no space to make it a hybrid.

Take a P1 add a v12 engine maybe even a couple of turbos and a 3 seat layout and that would be perfect

I rly wish they would re visit the top speed record and just smash it again

On another note flemke if you're ever in Yorkshire with your F1 I would honestly appreciate having a look at one as I've never seen one in the last 32yrs and there's very little chance of me owning one in the next 30/40yrs

That makes sense.
was the P1 going to be a 3-seater before they belatedly decided to make it a hybrid?

No, because they were always going to use the same carbon tub as in the 12C, same for the V8 engine.
