That's not what Ascot told me: they said the tub was wider which is why it is shown in the brochure as 2095 mm mirrors folded as opposed to the 12C 2093 mm mirrors out

The internet also has a 1915 mm figure and a 82.4 inch without mirrors

Can anyone else clarify ?

Pity Ascot don't know their own product. At 2095mm folded, it would be way wider than an Aventador (2030mm) !
^ this. I can't believe Ascot are that clueless. The 12c is 1915 with mirrors folded. 2095 is definitely with mirrors out.

Ok so let's turn this around: has anyone taken a 540/570 through a 7 ft width restrictor and/or through a standard 7 ft garage door ?

Can't find a decent 12c pic front on but seems that the 650s is wider? I always remember that the mirrors aren't the widest bit of the car (though CBA to go to garage and check) so downloaded the following pics. Could be the lens angle on 650?

Doesn't really help the 'how wide' query but just something that rang a bell with me thinking what's the point in the mirrors folding (and they only turn in on themselves!) other than to let me know I have locked it smile

570 definitely looks wider with mirrors out, so there will be two widths quoted. Head on pic below might be with mirrors folded??

Mirros definitely are the widest point of the car as they stretch out a lot. the picture you attached has a bit of an unusual angle i'd say. the 12c and 650 are the same car as they are pretty much identical in body panels from windscreen backwards.

Picture is from Mclaren's website of a 12c rear and 650 top view. the rear is actually slightly wider (probably due to the tyres) than the front.

edit

found a pic of a head on 650. mirrors definitely extend beyond the body panels.

I have a 2100 mm aperture to get through and the 650S fits in easily ( well 5 cm to spare each side ) but only with the mirrors turned in because that's still the widest part of the car as far as I can see. I cant get it in with the mirrors out.
If its not the widest part I better go and check the front and rear wings for gurt big scrapes getmecoat

The 570S mirror design is totally different so whilst the cars body is marginally wider the wing mirrors don't stick out so far as the 650s as far as I can tell. The widest point is probably the same with both cars

The manual for the 570 states 2095 with mirrors out, the mirror folds 48-50mm per side, I just measured it.

Super dooper, that's means I could drive it straight in without folding the mirrors and have 2mm to spare each side. A slow and careful approach maybe called for

When i placed my order for the GT in September, my primary concern was to ensure it would fit in my garage which is 2200mm wide at its narrowest part-the entrance. Didn't trust the information from Ascot either, so went old school and took a tape measure with me to the test drive. With the mirrors open, i measured 2100mm(give or take a mil) and 2004mm closed. I even checked the highest point of the door when opened from the ground, as i have overhanging metalwork for the electric door to consider at 2.1m. It was 2m exactly. I haven't got the car yet(sore subject) but i'm now confident it will fit in.

Loads of room then for a delivery party !

Presumably the wing mirrors are still the widest part then when closed. Whats the width of the rear arches and are 570GT and 570S the same ?

That's pretty definitive (as are the real life measurements in further posts) biggrin

I guess it is the difficulty of point of view vision (literally) versus actual dimensions.

Your comment on 12c being identical to 650s from the windscreen back is also interesting as from the photos the 650 front panels do look wider (appreciate rear is widest point) but again wonder if that's an optical illusion due to new frontal shape?

I'm looking to get a 12C shortly.

My garage door is 2200mm wide and I have a internal width restriction of 2600mm, probably about the position of where the doors open.

Do you think I will be able to get out of the door?

Otherwise I will need to engage a structural engineer to look at removing part of the central wall where the door opens I guess.

Thanks
Andrew

Andrew. This might help you https://www.the-blueprints.com/blueprints/cars/mcl... 2590mm wide with 1 door open fully.

PM me details of where you live and I'll put a message on the McLaren owners Facebook page. There maybe a 12C owner local to you who might be willing to drive over to yours and try your garage for size.

Once you do get a McLaren definitely join the owners group, we're a very friendly bunch and there's loads of advice & get togethers organised.

With double checking...I'm sure when the doors open/close they are further out than the fully open position.....so may need a few CM more than indicated on blueprint..

you don't need the door fully open to get out in my opinion. You can lean the door against the wall (just place some padding on the side so as not to scratch the door) while you try to get out. It takes surprisingly little space to get out imo.

Ok I did a lot of research into this (previously posted) the 12C is 1915 mm approx with mirrors folded and you need 18 inches approx to open the door enough that you can slide out with the window open if necessary - as I read your garage door size etc if you are on the left edge you have 50 cm to open the door

I did this a few times in car when 4x4's parked too close....open door and rest the door on the underside of the neighbouring 4x4's wing mirror...........slide out...........it used to be harder in the Gallardo given the thickness of the doors and that they needed to be opened pretty wide to get out.

Thanks for the info so far.

Could someone do me a favour and measure the distance from the rear of the car to the front of the door when it's open so I can see if it misses the garage pillar which causes the 2.6 metre width restriction.

Many thanks
Andrew

this is helpful - how wide is your garage interior - I'm thinking about the extra width needed to get the drivers door open!
