OK this is getting boring now. Please have the guts to answer this question.

Why do you expend so much effort in trying to pull the McLaren brand down. If you say you have been here since the 12C then that’s over seven years almost exclusively on a singular rant, please please please tell us why?
He is a polish valeter at a Ferrari dealership ? He gets a £1 for every negative comment and almost has enough to by his dream McLaren 720S now

Of course he might care, irrespective of the fact he has a 720s on order. It was a speculative question from me to potentially explain the rather odd conclusion given the immense enjoyment he demonstrated whilst driving it.

I just don't understand the conclusions of any of the Youtubers. They seem dumbstruck.

But then again who cares what anyone of them thinks?

These guys put their money where their mouth is though. EVO, Autocar, etc... all send journos that get to do the "Uncle"ing - blast it around a track for a few hours sideways and then hand it back at the end of the day. Most of these guys buy, run and live with these cars and probably have a more relevant insight for us normal people.

+1

I'd like to know what motivates you TP321

Do you own a rival marque ?

Do you just like winding up BingoLingo because you enjoy his cringingly pompous responses ?

Some other reason ?

It is rather odd.

TP322 has been asked many times why he/she has a seemingly maniacal hatred of McLaren.

He/she always ignores the question.

Sad really why someone would have such strong militant views and not be honest enough to admit it and explain why.

I am simply making a prediction based on historical data. The reviews so far back me up. Why is this so controversial?

I have no problem with someones views, no matter how militant they may be.........as long as there is a reasoning........Eg "I bought a 12c and lost £100k in a few months"............."I'm a die hard Ferrari fan and hate everything McLaren represents"............or just something other than constant, unqualified drivel.

It started on the 650s thread and petered off after numerous people posted up actual facts of what they had bought and sold for.......

I agree with this, the tubers use their cars as they should be putting plenty of miles on them. They're passionate about what they do I just wish I'd had the nouse they show when I was younger.
You'll get Chris Harris on over the next few days blowing smoke up Maclarens arse and he'll drive it sidewards at 200mph. Which is good to see however he hasn't just paid 1/4 mill for the pleasure and 99% of us who buy these cars have and don't drive at 11/10's as a result.
We are all entitled to our opinion just some are already in a better position to do so.

Agreed.

Sadly ph is littered with folk who like to piss on others' chips but aren't prepared to disclose anything about themselves which might help the rest of us understand why.

The youtubers got the very same invites as the evo/autocar journalists to the same press launch and handed back the cars at the end of the day as well so were asdependent on the same manufacturer goodwill to get those invites.

You might have a point if the video under discussion was about an extended period of ownership about a car but for these press day drives, at least one can be reasonably sure the pro journalists types (Meaden/bovingdon/Harris/Catchpole etc) have an idea of how to actually drive so when they say something about a car, applying a suitable hype filter based on past experience with what they say might get you something useful about a car. It's unclear to me that the youtubers have any idea how to drive other than up and down kings road trying to get themselves more social media clicks.

It is always best to take pro or semi-pro reviews for all cars in their totality, rather than just one or a handful. Read as many as possible and then form one's own opinion.

So far, for every Car, PH and Autocar spanking their monkey, there is an Evo, SoL and Telegraph saying the 720S is a bit rubbish.

The pro reviews are surprisingly similar to the amateur reviews on forums (like this). The 720S is a bit Marmite and is splitting opinion down the middle. Some like it, some dislike it.

I take your point - like all supercars, whether you like the 720S is highly subjective - but based on the reviews it's not 50-50, more like 90-10.
The nay-sayers are very much in the minority based on the evidence.
There are some of parallels with 488 in that respect which got some very lukewarm reviews on launch.
The 488 is clearly not a bad car but many reviewers were left cold. For all those praising the benign handling there were many others calling it a backward step from the 458.
The 720S isn't dividing opinion to that extent.
Also by way of a correction, I'm not sure anybody is saying it's a bit rubbish.

Sat on fence due to early pics of car and wish I hadn't now but as I've already placed deposits for 2 future cars there is no point ordering a 720S now as the delivery time is likely to cross over.
My bad but hey ho wait til you see whats coming lol

Surely the only way to form one's opinion is through first hand experience ? Otherwise all you are doing is making statements based on whose views you find most persuasive.

It would be a fool who starts declaring something dull based on one day's worth of watching other people's You Tube videos.

Oh hang on .......

It would be better to wait for longer tests especially in the UK, perhaps ecoty where the GT3 will win smile .

That's a serious point though, the longer drivers have with Mclarens the better they feel towards them. Lots of mention on this test how easy it is to drive, how good the visibility is etc. So lets wait and see.

I feel slightly sorry for the bloggers, they got called out before the test for likely being sycophantic and now told off for not enjoying the car as much as they thought they would. Note some professional testers also, Andrew English I seem to recall was mixed, same as John Barker. However as I said these cars tend to be slow burners.

Maybe it showed how good the 540/570 is and what a bargain as some testers say it is more fun etc, or perhaps testers were expecting continuation of 675LT driving dynamics?

Interesting set of opinions and debates. However, surely the point is that these reviews are ultimately indicative rather than absolute. We each may have our own favourites, testers that have driven cars that we have, and we broadly agree with their conclusions to give us a level of confidence in their views. The only definitive test is to get in the car yourself and see how you feel about it. By all means read the reviews, watch the videos and form an opinion but getting behind the wheel is the real answer.
I have only once bought a car based purely on reviews and articles, a BMW 325i back in the day, and I really regretted it, it just didn't fire me up at all. I'm glad there is a tangible level of excitement about a British supercar and I look forward to seeing them on the road, it certainly looked great in Geneva where I first saw it. To those about to receive one enjoy in good health.
