Just as with the 540C, I think the standard alloy wheel is by far the nicest.

£60k for this MSO paint, the world has gone mad!

No it isn't - have you seen what they've done? The front is a darker red, fading to red clearcoat over the carbon for the bonnet, then the paint blends to Volcano Red for the rear of the car with extra little touches here and there.

The man hours alone must have been ridiculous for that paint job. £30k for the flip paint on the LT is crazy, this is not IMO.

I look forward to seeing how you spec yours.
Oh shove it.

I've been a freelance motoring journalist for a fairly long time and have driven more supercars than many owners, giving me a better understanding of the differences between them. I feel I am highly qualified to pass comment on these sorts of cars having a very good understanding of the market and thanks to also being an automotive design engineer for many years, a good knowledge of how they are put together, designed and engineered.

You don't need to buy one to have an informed opinion on it.

Get some Help if you think spending £60k on a paint job is ok
I never said it's OK, just that comparatively it doesn't seem too crazy. Hell, people spend £800 getting their air vent slats painted body colour on their Porsche - that's far worse!

Also, it's completely irrelevant as nobody is actually going to spec that MSO paint job. It was a one-off to show what they could do and no doubt a figure was plucked out of the air to sound impressive and get people talking about it. Which we are doing.

Glad to see my comments echoed and that people are appreciating how incredible the 720S really is.

You would be mental to wrap a brand new 720S. Just choose a colour you like from the start, can't stand these people who are obsessed with speccing a car for the next owner and not themselves.
Not really. You buy it in a neutral or resale friendly colour and then get it wrapped it a more exciting colour. The paint is protected from new, you can always go back to a more sedate paint job at any time and of course you can change to another bright colour should you want to. It really is the best of both worlds.

Modern wraps can be polished to a proper finish and when they wrap into the door shuts etc nobody would know.

You're not speccing it for the next owner, you're getting the car you want and the car the market wants when you come to sell.

+1

I know of three 12Cs and two 650Ss that have been wrapped and unwrapped with zero issues. Sounds to me like it was poorly installed/removed.

Call me old-fashioned if you will but I reckon this would look amazing in some dark metallic green (Volcano Green anyone?) with clear wheels and black calipers, notwithstanding the headlight sockets.

That's a British car after all and I don't understand why anything else than the teeth-shattering "mint" green is the only shade of green currently offered in the catalogue.
Avoiding doing any real work today.... biggrin

I would be interested what peoples thoughts are on whether they would opt for the glass roof, black roof, or carbon roof?

To me a big part of the car is the glass roof to open the light in the cabin - but appreciate some wont want the excess weight and higher COG that the glass brings...
When speaking with George at Geneva, I'm not sure this is such a big deal. The part you are choosing here is just the strip panel in between the two doors. All cars still get the glass "roof" panels in the doors, which let in the bulk of the cabin light.
Nope.

has anyone yet solved/answered the issue of getting in or out of this whilst it's raining and not soaking the interior?
Does it employ the Rolls Royce solution?
Is it really that big a problem? Seats get wet when it's raining and you open the door anyway.

Peloton - I love this one. Have seen it a few times at the Revs Institute in Naples, FL. lovely greeny grey with tan.

This is my perfect F1.

I walk under ladders, behind black cats, break mirrors and step on cracks

Superstition is a load of old sh*te, if I want to do something (like have a green car) no ridiculous hocum would stop me and I'm staggered that any right minded folk these days would.

That doesn't surprise me.

FoS when the Huyara was released, and HP was wiping the car down with some quick detailer.

I figured that this gave the impression that he was feeling quite sociable, and asked him a few questions about the car, only for him to 'no eenglishh'.

Then a week later I saw an interview with Hurry Metcalfe where his English was impeccable...
You see that paints a different picture for me - I love that the owner of the company was getting his hands dirty and cleaning the car himself. Maybe he'd had a long day and just didn't want to chat, but I would y hold that against him.

Agree about Ferrari though, you can tell the kind of company they are now when the 812 Superfast was revealed at Geneva. Within seconds the car was surrounded by sharp suited Italians abd awfully dressed wealthy types posing. The hoardes of Press around the stand didn't get a chance to take a photo of the car without some gurning bellend in the way.

It was the first press day and the global reveal of the car, you'd think they could leave it 5mins before noshing off their whales.

Can't remember if this has been covered, but seeing this pic of the front wing vent/sharkfin bit has me wondering.

Surely isn't this just going to chuck road grime, stones, dirty water etc all up the side of the car?

I could be wrong, but I'm not sure McLaren would be too happy with you describing anything about the 720S driving experience before their official embargo after press drives.

Why? They have commented several times on the subject and released a video. I just wish they would release some cars to the motoring journalists quickly so we can see the road tests, and of course the promised lap round the ring!
Because the car that he drove probably wasn't production ready, and companies have carefully staged press releases for a reason.

There are always press embargoes on first drives, so I'm pretty sure they don't want info coming out before then. This is coming from the background of being an automotive design engineer and a journalist.

Fair point Beefmeister, but I think it is also true that Mclaren do seem to have engineered "leaks", and from what I see it has worked well in building interest and excitement.
Like you Mark, I don't think I have ever been so excited about road tests. Surely we only have to wait a few more weeks, and will it be Portugal again like the 570S?
Press drives are sometime in early May I think
