Thanks! smile

There is of course no right or wrong.......buy cheap/ sell cheap etc.........but in my experience, when spending six figures on a car, buy the best car you can afford.........

Quick update.......spent the day crunching figures and applying man maths.....contacted the dealer to let him know I'm interested in purchasing a 540c and have a meeting next week set up.

My ideal car will be to my spec and will be pushing for a minimum 8% discount.....hopefully something that's achievable.....if not i will walk away.

Again thanks everyone for there input and help..........fingers crossed

I'd have a poverty spec one with noselift, maybe the interior CF pack but nothing else. The options are expensive and you won't get the money back but as others have pointed out it'll make it harder to sell. The noselift is essential in my view and the interior CF pack does make it a nicer place to sit, but otherwise it's mostly vanity stuff! Good luck!

Think you stand a better chance on the dealer stock car......it's sat there costing them money.............not sure you'll get 8% off a new build order but you never know!

Sarnie,

thanks again for the tip.........your car is absolutely stunning......we will see with the stock car.....it has a few options that i would have chosen myself but probably £7k/£8k of ones i wouldn't have specced.

if the dealer meets the % i need they will definitely sell a car.

To return to the original question, are dealer prices set in stone?

Walked into a McLaren showroom on Friday with a view to a test drive and place an order for March. There's a 2% price increase coming and I loved a 570 S design model in the showroom which was almost my perfect specification.

A fabulous deal was reached for registration this month, and I collect it on Saturday. Saved myself a small fortune compared to a factory order.

As I posted above.......once the car is sat in the showroom, it's costing them money......that looks like McGlasgow......they seemed to be the most open to a deal on stock cars.......good work! smile

Congratulations!

You can now sign yourself up as a member of the McLaren UK Owners Group http://www.mclarenowners.org.uk/

There's approx 270 owners in the group, lots of banter and get together's and the largest gathering of McLarens (120) getting together at Silverstone Classic at the end of the month.

This year would have been Bruce McLaren's 80th Birthday and his daughter Amanda will be leading the track parade in his memory.

What better way to celebrate your new purchase than to bring it along, particularly as you have chosen Bruce's colour!

650S' were discounting at 10%+, but there were a lot being forced on to dealerships

I doubt you will see one. I rarely look at members history but "Comrie" only ever asks what discount he can get on x y or z car and rarely seems to take the plunge. I checked back to see if perhaps he had bought a different car as I was interested to see what it might be.

I rarely take the plunge because i am not getting the deal i am after......i have bought several cars that i haven't posted about due to getting the exact deal i was after.

Regarding the 540c ......i was pretty close to securing the deal but the dealer just wouldn't shift the small amount i needed to make the figures work....so i walked and didn't take the plunge.

There definitely is movement on the price of a stock car but they seem to be pretty scarce on the ground........regarding a factory build there was some movement on price but not as large as a stock car......i was quoted a factory build would be March 18 and i would have to swallow the 2.5% increase that appears to be happening in the new year.

Try a different dealer. I found McGlasgow to be really difficult to deal with, got to within a whisker on a very nice used 570s but eventually gave-up chasing them and bought from McManchester. Bought new from their showroom rather than used and it was a much easier and enjoyable process.

If you don't mind buying second hand you will get a great deal in next 12 months on cars with a few hundred miles. I could have saved another 10% if I had done this!

Lol.
I think all this vulgar discussion on the interweb thing about massive discounts raises peoples expectations of literally stealing a car. There will always be the old, odd spec, dealer stock car or pre reg unit that saves you some money but as people are finding out the so called "deals" out there nowadays are very limited in reality and so it should be the case.

Maybe he is still busy negotiating a discount off his M & S sandwich, and as Tesco's would say every penny counts.

Surely that's a private matter that he may be prepared to share with you by pm rather than a public forum.
I presume you have done your own homework

Well it's up to the chap I asked whether he wishes to share the info or not either on here or via pm.
