Hi

having set out to buy an F430, i now have my eyes on an MP4 -12C.

I have identified two that are of interest, both 2012 cars, both with under 12k miles and both with extended Mclaren warranties and FMSH. Cars are priced at £110 - £118 with sports exhausts , stealth packs, etc etc

Neither have front end lift tho, is this likely to give me any issues with speed bumps ?

Any advice from 12C owners as to what to look out for would be appreciated

many thanks

Hardly ANY 12c's came with lift.........only a very small number of the later 2013 cars/spiders................it was absolutely no problem at all to me in my 2012 12c...

Never scraped my 12c on a speed bump, just take them slowly and you will be fine.

Had my 12C for 18 months and 10,000 miles. Never had an issue with any speed-bumps and I live in South London, speed-bump capitol of the world!!! The 650S is another story, you will need to be careful on speed-bumps without lift but its still possible. So no problem go for it :-)

Speed bumps are generally fine BUT car park ramps and steep uphill turns are not. My 2014 12C scrapes both, in both directions. Lift avoids this. IMO it is worth finding, but as other posters say, it means a later more expensive car - for which cash can sort out the scrapes every few years.

Mate of a mate had a 12C and deliberated about warranty as it was £3k a year
Went for it in the end and after 6 months gearbox issue, apparently a leak of some sort
According to McLarren the unit is a sealed for life jobby, so the car had a new box, would have cost £18k without the warranty
So my advice based on this is to get a warranty

Definitely go for the warranty.

McLaren will have to extend the term at the end .. or risk a big dip in residuals.

Unless they change their mind on the gearbox ... they can be and are repaired in the track and race cars.

'Though I overheard an engineer talking at Oulton Park saying that at least they had 6th gear on this one ??

Of course, there could have been an innocent explanation ...

The 12C is awesome but you MUST get a warranty.

Yup. Warranty strongly advised. Most people don't have major problems, but if you do repairs are very expensive. Great peace of mind. Instead of suffering big depreciation, you have to factor in the high running costs: warranty, service and insurance.

And knowing that a car is in warranty and therefore that any work required will have been done throughout the life of the car, will add to it's secondhand value and / or ease of sale.
