This is a genuine question, not an advert. I have been approached to sell a registration I own on a vehicle. I am interested to see if the offer is reasonable. The reg is P9 MCL.

Thoughts ?

Hard to value this kind of thing, it is worth what someone wants to pay for it when you want to sell it. Under £1,000 IMHO though for sure.

It could be the McLaren factory though, through a 3rd party, it could be worth a lot more to them, as they may have a future model with that designation.

As always, start high and work your way down. Start at £50k, and go from there.

If you had a P1 and could put P1MCL on it, you would.

If McLaren are to bring out a P9 model, that plate is going to be worth way more than £1000.

But what it's worth at the moment, I haven't a clue.

Is the offer reasonable ?
Well that depends on a number of factors
How much you paid for it
How much is being offered
Do you need / want to sell

Your bargaining could be increased if you knew who made the offer but I suspect you don't

Only you can decide if the offer is reasonable unless you share the above info

as above. If there's a p9 in the works then it's worth thousands. A 3rd party approach doesn't mean it's mclaren, this is what number plate companies do - they approach people on behalf of individuals. They might have advertised your plate without your knowledge in the hope of finding a buyer who will convince you to sell. I've seen plates advertised but they're currently with an owner and the company in the middle e.g. Regtransfers, will make the approach on my behalf.

I paid £600 for Pxx MCL. Without knowledge of a P9 model being built I would have thought that plate would be worth between £1500 and £2000.

Currently G6 MCL can be had for £2295 and B7 MCL for £1300

Thank you for all your replies. It was a little under £1000. It cam on a race truck I have bought. For that sort of money I can't be arsed with the hassle. Live in hope Mclaren make a P9 model. Kerrching.

I would have thought P9 has been and gone. The new 720s was named P14 when it was in development, but they may not be sequential I suppose. Still, they probably are, this is McLaren we are talking about!

They are sequential, next model to be introduced will be P15.

From Wiki:

Unreleased vehicles:

The partnership between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren resulted in three further cars being proposed. The P9 was to be a mid-engined baby supercar with a less expensive model, the P8 or "SLS", competing with cars such as the Ferrari F430, the Bentley Continental GT and the Aston Martin DB9. Both cars were to be powered by naturally aspirated V-8 engines. The P10 would have been an SLR replacement.

All three cars were aborted in 2005, with Mercedes rumoured to have considered the projects simply too costly to turn into a solid business case, although Mercedes' AMG subsidiary produces the SLS alone as the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. The car has a naturally aspirated V8 with over 570 bhp (430 kW; 580 PS); however, it's not thought to be related to the P8 project.

On the topic of registrations I spotted this:

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/parts-and-...

Clearly someone has snapped up some 67 plate numbers as they were released. Comical pricing. I wish him luck in finding a 67 plate or newer 675 LT that this can actually go on!

Do any unregistered 675LT's exist?

I think the seller might have a struggle finding a buyer...

Hah, the rush of blood with the thought of the profit he'd make, prevented him doing some research. Nice mantlepiece ornament.
