Looks like a familiar 720s is being flipped already.
Not mine before any of you swines say anything...
£320k... surely there's nobody that stupid? Not mine before any of you swines say anything...
It's utterly brilliant. I have done 450 miles in the last week. This week I would love to be racking it up more but have to pop off to China till the weekend. Next week I have day at Silverstone and I'm just debating what to bring... probably bring 720 and RS as I have a feeling RS will be kicked off for noise and the 720 certainly will not have that problem. I have spent 2 full days at silverstone in the P1 so very interested to see how it compares. It certainly doesn't have the torque and race car feel of the p1 but passed 4K rpm it's a total animal. It's plenty fast enough and feels really good value for money at this price point. Really pleased as next one is keeper spec.
This car is going to surprise a lot of people and change many opinions on Mclaren's. Looks simply fantastic on the road too. Only 2 issues 1. Sports exhaust fix (but then all my cars do!) 2. It's hard to take a dog and girlfriend at hyper speed down your fave backroad. A pretty tight cabin as you have to remember part of the width is those clever doors made like a wind tunnel of two skins. It's not claustrophobic Like a lambos as has a bubble windscreen and those amazing windows built in to the roof of the door. A truely lovely place to be. Mclaren have created a new catagory with this car. It maybe a bold statement but feels like it costs 1/3 more than a 488 to me.

So Woppum, are you able to share some more details on your custom spec 720s, I have seen a couple of pics on Instargram?
I only have what is posted on my IG if I am honest. The base is volcano red and I used velocity techniques with paint blend and a new red (Wopred, not as dark as velocity) in different areas. I designed it with MSO so unless anyone copy's will be the only one. Will have roll cage and harnesses too. Really like my grey one but this will be a lot of fun to do and my perfect spec.Edited by woppum on Tuesday 1st August 09:26
Now that does sound interesting. I would like to see how they intergrate the cage, are we talking GT3RS style or something different? And will this be a standard MSO part or custom made for you?
Plus the paint sould be cool. I have been very impressed with the quality of the MSO paint jobs I have seen so far. Velocity was done very well if not in a style I personally would have gone for.
Judging by your renders can I assume the darker red will be blended into the concave parts of the doors and back half of the bonnet using the classic fade away style?

genuinely think that is the nicest 720 I've seen - can't help but think a front number plate would spoil the look immensely thoughThis car is going to surprise a lot of people and change many opinions on Mclaren's. - front bonnet
- inner skin of door that blends to a subtle detail on middle part of top of spoiler
- on the outside of door to fit with shape of the curve as you can see from side on rendering
- underspoiler and around sill surrounding the exhaust.
Should add no plastics on car everything in carbon.
The cage and harnesses are an MSO option. Really clever design actually as is hardly compromises the rear compartment. This CAD is not fully correct to my interior but gives you an idea :

What do people think the used market will be like for these?
Will there be a premium for early cars?
Depends on how many they are going to build. I'm guessing after the initial batch to satisfy early orders production will be reduced and switched to 570S spider. McLaren need to manage supply to natural demand to protect residuals. Will there be a premium for early cars?
Whilst I know its an epic car I wasn't sold on its HYPERcar looks, particularly front lights and sat on the fence as I wasn't prepared to risk taking a punt on the residuals remaining strong based on historic performance. I think after 12 months cars will be well below list with early adoptors flipping and moving on to the next "greatest" supercar.

And Rambo please please get off your hobby horse. If you are not doing your best to run a one man PR function for you beloved 650s you are trying to down play the signicance of 720s and the fact that it makes the 650s look very old school in comparison. All the data point towards the 720s being a massive sales success, couple that with the 570s Spider role out and McLaren are punching way above their weight. Its a great story at the moment
