WOW! Fire black? This colour virtually neutralises the effect of the ugly front light vents.
You see I completely disagree. By having the light sockets blend in you just get a mess of black that falls away and twists and turns.

The sockets were always designed to be a feature, and for the rest of the styling to flow out and around from them. By 'hiding' them you remove that aspect. For me the lights have to be accentuated by a lighter or brighter colour.

But hey, each to their own.

Of the opposite opinion, I want to hide them - at least going by pics - so black is also my choice

If that's what you're going by I implore you to go and look at as many different colours in person as you can.

the post above has a point. Even black is imo insufficient to hide the awful headlights. I had thought that black would be able to obscure those damned things but sadly after having seen 2 cars recently... nope.. still as bad and while less obvious it's nowhere near enough so getting it in a colour you really want and just forcing yourself to ignore the lights entirely might be a better option.

You should, but I would say that wouldn't I :-

I had to do a double take then as I thought that was my car. One letter away - and a different colour.

Have seen one in volcano orange which to me (a 21 year old with nowhere near enough money to step into a supercar) looked awesome, a step above anything else mclaren have built post 12c

If black/carbon headlight surround is throwing people off, surely mclaren can do a body coloured headlight surround, would be intresting to see what that would look like.

Nope. They don't offer it and it would have to be done by MSO if you did want it. And the price would be extortionate. This comes direct from Rob Melville the chief designer, told to me over dinner after the 720S reveal in Geneva.

The parking sensor near the front number plate looks like a bullet hole. I like it!

A tough choice OP.

Like has been said, if you want the latest car you can expect some depreciation. If you want to keep your money safe, then stick with what you have. If you've got the itch, the 720S is sure to put a smile on the face.

After test driving a red 720S it really grew on me + the car was VERY quick. I just HAD TO HAVE ONE.

If my Aventador SV is a sledgehammer, the 720S is more like a surgeons scalpal in the sense that it's extremely agile and very responsive.

I went to the factory to see different colours and there were quite a few blues, blacks, greys and whites, but hardly any red (which I really like the look of). I ended up talking to MSO and they created a mockup of a red car with gold wheels.

It won't be to everyone's taste I'm sure, but I thought it looked quite different and my order is in and I just hope it looks good in the flesh when it arrives.

Good luck with the decision!

I love the look of the light pods, its like nothing out there, it's different, almost a game changer. What I love about it is its functionality, it hasn't been done just to look good, it's there for a reason. As with everything on a Mclaren, it's been well thought through.
It'll never please everyone, but when people talk about trying to hide a feature like this, to me they are missed the point of such a car. If your buying it to be a trinket accessory, then the way the lights look might be important. If you spend some time to understand why they look the way they look, you might then understand the designers thoughts and buy into the engineering behind it.
It's a great looking car, if you can afford it now and accept the obvious depreciation, go for it.

Our friend TGE TV seems quite upset about his albeit short ownership experience with the 720s...

forward to 6min 30 where he discusses the sale of the car:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIdug5IkkaQ

I'm surprised at his comments - and might be more indicative of what's starting to seep through the wider market at this price level rather than specific to what is no doubt an astonishingly good car? It will be interesting to see how easily he finds it to move the HP and Aventador S on after he's done with them.

He was very open about losing money in the 720 thread but it appears it was very difficult to find any buyers for the car, even at list!

Why should that be a surprise, his car was a launch addition and a rather badly specced one at that.

At this price point, I suspect most would want a car built to their own spec unless you are the desperate sort who needs to have the newest toy on the block. These types in my experience tend to be show-offs rather than enthusiasts and tend to get bored easily.

I don't see how the 720s isn't a show off car in addition to being a great car to drive.
It's new and everyone is still talking about them and they look cool.

True, but still a pretty low spec example
