720S Should I or shouldn't I?
Discussion
There is much to like about the 720 S. I thought the 650 was a very fine car but the latest SuperSport series has clearly moved the game on. It does look tempting.
During the year that I owned a new 16 plate 650S spider it had two warranty issues. On handover the fuel filler cap wouldn’t release. Result was a few days delay in handover so not too inconvenient and no big deal. The next issue was when the passenger window wound itself part way down when the car was locked and in a garage. This triggered the Tracker alert and subsequent call to McLaren Assist. The car was in Switzerland at the time and the nearest McLaren dealer was Geneva. As it would be two days before they could recover the vehicle I drove it to Geneva and back. A work around shut the window and the problem was fixed permanently once back in UK. Quite inconvenient but no harm done.
Both faults fixed under warranty without a quibble.
So here’s the rub. There is a thread running currently on McLaren Life which suggests that McLaren policy wrt warranty may be hardening. I hope not as I certainly wouldn’t have wanted to be arguing the toss with them over the issues I had and let me say again they were both 100% covered at the time by McLaren.
Does anyone know whether there has recently been a change of policy at Woking with regards to warranty claims?

Cheers, buddy.
Thinking of chopping in my GT3 for another ride.
May take a ride to Ascot then..
Not sure what the waitlist on 720S' is like in the UK now, but doubt you would see the car before 2019. Thinking of chopping in my GT3 for another ride.

It looks like the 720s's is properly quick on a track too. Apologies to Yipper but it looks like the Performante's fastest on any track ever ever ever crown has been dislodged by the 720s at Big Willow by Motortrend:-

0.78 second faster at 1.21.75 by the same driver on the same track in similar (hot & dry) weather is pretty decent given that it was on standard road tyres rather than the optional 'Trofeo R' tyre. Takes nothing away from the Performante which is incredibly quick when compared to the 918 Spider and others, but that will hopefully put to bed any claims that the 720s won't go around corners.
I wonder what the Senna would do given that the Performante with all it's clever active aero is circa 4 seconds faster than the 'standard' Huracan

Never you mind said:
Does anyone really buy this level of car based on lap times? Can't imagine anyone, who likes both, would pick on over the other based solely on it's lap time round a track.
I think a lot of people who previously didn't give the Huracan much credibility are buying their Performante on the back of the 'ring record. The Surveyor said:

After seeing a Performante in the flesh I was smitten instantly.. What a beautiful machine. See one in white and gold wheels with pretty much all on it, stunning. I will look at a 720S but its got some catching up to do,,, for a change Gassing Station | McLaren | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
