Top comedy.
There are more Tom Dick and Harry's with increasingly common Mclarens in the UK.
1476 Mclarens v 332 991.1 GT3s
A whole brand volume versus 1 small derivative. Talk about apples and pears. There are more Tom Dick and Harry's with increasingly common Mclarens in the UK.
1476 Mclarens v 332 991.1 GT3s
How many Coxters, Caymans, Macans, Panameras, Cayennes etc............Common as mcuk.
Even my next door neighbour has 2 that no one bats an eyelid to
So I have 3 'neighbour's' within a 1 mile radius at the end of my drive each with a Mclaren!
Interesting how you mention the ubiquity of Porsches. So in view of this, presumably you would understand that it is even more remarkable that irrespective of the Porsche brand dilution you refer to that the market values these 'common' cars so highly then with even 3 year old 991.1 GT3s with 15k + miles still at over otr list price and gen 2 GT3s selling at £50k premium over list.
I won't even mention the market and huge premiums for the GT2 RS....a car which has just smashed the Ring times.
Contrast say a 2 year old 570S high spec McLaren with little mileage say £155k new price worth c £125k now. If they were so rare desirable and as able as you claim why would these 'desirable' cars depreciate at such an alarming rate?
Serious question btw.
The market is a true indicator of demand and ability and it is clearly dictating that the McLaren is overpriced and outclassed by the competition.
I rest my case.
We are not talking about values/residuals here. To a lot of supercar owners that's not the be all and end all.
We are talking about SUPERcars and that's why Porsche has its own forum.
I would rather be on the bottom rung of the higher brand than the top rung of the lower brand.
Porsche ain't much different to me than Audi/ BMW. Doesn't matter how fast or in demand their limited edition cars appealing to the mass are.
Decent enough sports cars though

Classic case of someone feeling vulnerable by preferring the superficiality of the perceived brand 'image' rather than the actual abilities of the car.
if you're stuck selling crappy kias all day, then maybe perceived brand is everything ?!Very true.
And to suggest a new GT2 RS is not in any way a supercar compared to the likes of say a 570S is plainly moronic.
I have a Porsche & a McLaren.
The Mac is perceived as something v special & the Porsche is... well... a Porsche.
I have to agree with RL, the general public will never think that Porsche are in the same league as McLaren/Lambo/Ferrari.
Park a GT3 next to a Basic 540 & I can assure you that the Mac will get way more attention. Values/Residuals will have nothing to do with it.
Not saying that McLaren are better than Porsche, just stating fact.

I find it absurd that a bunch of people that have been given, or have earned themselves, an above-average position in economic prosperity, have nothing better to do than squabble about whose toy is infinitesimally better than an other's. Shame on you.
All it means is you stand in a different part of the playground. Still the playground. andrew said:

Your post reveals an awful lot about your priorities for owning a car. You appear far more concerned about what the general public think about your car and the amount of attention it may or may not receive rather than the abilities or driving dynamics of the car from your own personal perspective.
Do you frequent the Kings Road often in your 'trophy' car per chance?
Joking aside it has to be said this is clearly rather superficial....especially for a PHer!!

Where did I say what is important to me?
When the sun came out last week I spent 3 days driving my 1968 fiat 500 (in Kings Langley not Kings Road!), the Porsche or Mac didn't get a look in! So trust me when I say, I genuinely couldn't give a toss what people think of the cars I drive!
