Such a shame that cars like that get bought and stashed away like that.

Its nice to see a mint example like that but for it to have never been driven is terrible.

You have to hand it to old JR Hartley, he gets some good stock at times.

A 200-mile pristine Macca F1 is probably gonna be up in the £15-20 million range. Someone will no doubt pop on here and know what they're asking.

Shame it got wrapped up and never used for ~20 years, like it was meant to be.

And the thing is, whoever buys it probably won't use it either. It's gone from an appreciating car to an investment piece in a single step.

I remember there being a video by SCD involving Romans International about them attempting to source a McLaren F1. They said that they bought a car in Japan but it wasn't actually for sale.

I wonder if this is one of those cars.

that was a black one, not this dandelion (!) yellow one.....

I am aware how much it was bought for, but am sure it'll be asking for a fair amount more before it reaches its 2nd owner

I'm talking about the one they purchased before the black one that wasn't actually for sale.

I read the C&C article as well and just felt a little sad afterwards. To me, this is like Usain Bolt qualifying for the Olympics only to be told he is only going to be allowed to sign autographs - nothing else.

I often see things like this and think that if I had £X, I would buy it and rip all the plastic off, register the thing and have some fun...but in this instance I just know that nobody is ever going to do that and it's...well...just a little bit of a shame.

Incredible. Real piece of history but agree a real shame whoever ordered it never got to drive it.

As perfect as this car may be I suspect its going to need a complete re-commission by McLaren if the new owner is going to want to drive it, even if it is going to be stored away again

I did ask in the other thread running, in NP&E for some reason .... Would that have had all liquids drained? Would things like hoses, gaskets all need replacing? How much is it worth?

I cannot imagine being stored for that amount of time will be good for it, but I'm happy to be told otherwise.

how much would putting 10k miles on it devalue it by, from about 20m to 10m maybe?
if so then funny to think for every hour you drive at 100mph it costs you £100k

Buying exotic cars and hoarding them as assets (akin to fine arts, antiquities, jewellery) is an alien concept to me, but I also have no right to question the motives of collectors. Cars should be driven, whiskies and wines should be consumed, that's what I think - but if people share opposing views and like to collect things, that's their choice.

Having said that, for something like this F1, would driving it really affect its perceived value that much? Rowan Atkinson racked up the miles on his, it was involved in various high-profile 'incidents', yet still sold for big money. Due to its rarity, would it be fair to say that the F1, due to its rarity and iconic status, is in the same realms now as the likes of the high-value Ferrari 250s (GTO, SWB etc), which will always trade for crazy money irrespective of mileage? (By that I don't mean that the F1 would change hands for GTO-esque money, but more the notion that there's getting to be a financial threshold below which the F1 will never fall now, irrespective of mileage and use.)

I wonder if a prospective buyer might be afforded the luxury of a test drive. I suspect not, give the USP of this example.

This car sits in the same category as an original Star Wars figure. No matter how good a condition it's in, one that's out of it's packet will never be worth as much as one that is still nicely sealed up like new.

Much like the above figure, with this particular F1 you will pay a premium for it being in it's packet...and as soon as you open it, that value is gone. Hell, you don't even have to play with it...just the act of taking all the wrapping off will be enough to shave value away.

Sadly, I think the above car is simply too valuable to ever drive or even 'unwrap'. So unless The KLF suddenly come into a whole bunch of money, don't ever expect this to turn a wheel again.

One of the saddest things I've seen in a while. It shall only be bought by a speculator instead of someone wanting to enjoy the car.

I suspect like everyone in this thread, the 'saddest thing' comments are contextual, you fool.

Understand the context before having your little self-righteous rant, son.
