Now, that's a lovely machine. Thank you for posting. I was considering this color.
Ice Silver has a nice sparkle and tiny hint of blue.

Very nice 2k mile 2017 540 for sale on here.

It appears to have a massive spec which is unusual as most 540's are bought because of the cost saving against a 570, to then add loads of options is somewhat counter productive .

nb. Not my car & no affiliation to the seller.

I think the 540C is a bargain, esp one that has been run in by someone else and depreciated a little. I have a 570GT with a Larini Exhaust (looks and sounds best IMHO). It has been faultless over the 6,000 miles I've done since I bought it at the end of July. I just love driving it, but hate the fact it takes so long to wash due to all the nooks and crannies (a good thing on a nice day, not so in the winter!).

Regarding the lift noise, I am pretty sure this is caused by activating front lift while using a lot of steering lock. It happened to me twice, and hasn't since I worked this out.

Do it. You only live once.

Oh, and the doors are worth it alone :-)
Thank you for the feedback, and I agree with you the 540C does look like great value. What did a decent one cost new 150k odd? I have seen a 2017 car advertised for 130k and it looks amazing.

Questions

1. Is the 540C seen as 'skim milk' and you struggle to sell them on as 'semi skimmed 570' or' full cream 650' (albeit older) will sell first or is my perception a little off?

2. If I purchased for 12 month view and sold in a year adding say 3000 miles what sort of resale would you predict - I have no idea on residuals. Would buyers go for full cream milk first prize and hence slower to sell?

Any thoughts gratefully accepted.

Thank you

I've had a 540 for 18 months now, I drove a 570 too and couldn't tell the difference, on the road the extra 30 horses is irrelevant, the brakes are great, same as the GT, beyond that there's a couple of cosmetics differences the eagle eyed might spot but probably not. No idea about skimmed milk' but I'd say the Sports Series are all fine brandy, the Super Series a great Tequila ( salt and lime! ) and the Hyper Series.... Absinthe!

Price wise I was able to spec the car higher with a number of creature comforts, the lift is an absolute must regardless whatever else the car has though. No niggles to speak of, the McLaren world's a good place to be, service is good these days too. No idea about residuals, I guess it would depend on what's available at the time you're selling, etc. The Sports Series is the best of both worlds and the 540's the true bargain... if such a thing is possible at McLaren!

I finally bought one just a couple of weeks ago and so its all still new for me. But here are my thoughts / observations:

1 - yes looking at £150k for a reasonable spec new car with recent price increases, new on road costs etc.

2 - there are not loads of 540c cars around and good examples tend to move on quickly. yes having watched the market over the last 3/4 mths there have been certain cars that have stuck and not sold but thats possibly more time of year than anything else. Sales on 570s over same period have been just as slow.

3 - is it a poorer option, who knows, it will always be slightly cheaper than the 570s so give someone the option to get in to a newer 540c for what they would pay for a 570s maybe 18mths older or just be able to get into the McLaren brand.

4 - at end off the day cars depreciate but its about getting the maximum enjoyment from them and not worrying too much about what something might be worth in a few years time.

not sure if any of this helps but i am sure you won't regret buying one.

Have done 5.5k miles in 540 and enjoyed very much, recently 1000 miles in 570 spider. I did notice difference between the models especially the extra torque in 570. To me, overall the 570 feels like 540 turned upto 11. There are no single elements that are night and day different, more overall package is appreciably different and IMO better. Tho you won't go wrong with either model, for sure. Is case of finding right car in your preferred spec / budget, good time to buy at present too while market quieter pre season. Let us know how you go on smile
