After some advice after receiving my latest insurance renewal quote.

Had been with Aviva for a number of years until the last year when it increased to £3.5K for 3 cars, Cayenne, 5 series and 12C. Changed to Admiral and was £2.9K

I've just had the renewal through and they want £3.9K for Cayenne, Macan and 720s. Previously the 12C was the cheapest of the cars out of the 3 due to limited mileage, this year the quote for the 720 accounts for £2.2K of the total. What is surprising is when I cancelled the insurance for my 12C when I sold it I got a refund virtually equal to the cost to insure the 720 for the remainder of the policy term.

Ideally I'd like to keep all 3 cars on the same insurance or do most insurance their Macs separately to their other cars?

Thanks

Using the 1% rule, for £250-350k of cars, you should be paying £2-4k per year for insurance.

Your £3.9k quote looks toward the top end of the range.

Try AIB, who are sponsors on PH. NFU also good.

Probably worth also getting 3 quotes for 3 cars from CTM, GC, etc. Breaking it up may save some cash. Use cashback sites, also, to knock potentially a few extra quid off.

Try First Point.

I insure 15 cars with them and my Brian James Race Transporter 4 for £7200 a year. That includes an F12, 458 Spider, 458 Speciale, 997.2 GT3RS, 981 Boxster S, E92M3, V8 Esprit, classics (including a BDA Mk1 Escort RS worth £80k and cars worth 40-60k), vintage and a couple of Merc 4x4s (see my profile for a full list). Includes Euro cover and breakdown cover. I only have my wife on as well as me but as needs arise I add the chap that looks after my classics who occasionally uses my Merc GL and trailer to move cars around for me and also friends if we go on trips. Most of the time they just add them for nothing.

Fully comp, drive any car comp, agreed value without a load of photos, no limit on miles (although there's a need to be fair and honest by giving them an idea of what you use for how many miles ish). They're superbly helpful, reasonable and there's no automated call control. Mine is underwritten by Zurich Private Clients through First Point.

Clauses wise I have the usual tracker clauses for the Ferraris and GT3RS, garaging between 10pm and 6am when at home for the classics and vintage cars and that's about it. No silly excesses.

Been with them 3 years now and I've really been impressed with the common sense they apply based on my driving experience, security and attitude etc

Contact Joe Carter on 01604 498892 and describe the car list above and say 'bloke near York" and he'll know who I am. Sorry, don't want to put my actual name on here for obvious reasons.

Hope that helps.

I put the 570 on the Admiral policy, as it was cheaper than insuring it on its own. Admiral won't take the Nomad on the multicar policy for some strange reason....

When you say NFU, do you actually mean National Farmers Union? I'm currently using two providors (inc AIB) but wanted
to get a few more quoates in beofre making a decision. Heard NFU recommended quite a few times.....................

I also insure through Admiral Multicar. 650S Spider/ Panamera Hybrid/ SLK = £900 for all three. Full Year Pan. 8 months 650S. 6 Months SLK. Pro-rata it roughly works out as £1.2k for 12 months of all three.
Insurance is always impossible to compare. But I’d imagine that going 12C to new 720S would be more than enough justification to double the risk premium given double the value... Still probably on the heavy side of things (depending on where you live of course)...

iirc Flemke said he is currently using Hiscox, even though your collections are a different, you could always try them.

Thanks for the replies.

Update so far, and basically Admiral are still the cheapest by quite some way and the differences in quotes in considerable.

Tried Aviva last night, as I have been insured with them before. As you can't get a quote on the McLaren online I called them, spent close to an hour going through all the details for them to advise they needed to discuss with an underwriter and they would call me back. They returned the call this morning, went through a lot of details for security checks etc, then spoke to the underwriter who then declined to insure due to new business!!!

AIB are looking at options for me and I should hear more today

LEG - thanks for the details of First Point, talking to them on the phone they seem excellent, however their first quote was between £6.5 to £10K, but they are still looking at it and will call me back. Also very informative on guaranteed values as well.

First point served me wellish for five years until having an accident however they always seemed exuberant with multiple cars.

I was insured with Admiral for a year and they seemed pretty reasonable however, when I tried to add an Aventador in January they couldn't insure me as i exceeded there total value cap for a customer.

Speak to Christian at Kieth michaels ( 0208 3291150 ) as this is who i went over to and they were marginally more expensive than Admiral - went to all the trouble of changing over and then didn't even buy the AV such is life however, I now have guaranteed values and don't have to deal with Admiral should a claim arise as i've told this can be challenging.

So here is my update after looking for multi car insurance over the last 1 to 2 weeks.

Both First Point and AIB came back with quotes from Chubb although First Point were cheaper by about £800.00. One thing I have learnt from this is the massive difference in the type of insurance when speaking with companies like AIB and First Point. My quotes were based on my 3 cars, Cayenne Turbo, Macan S and 720S all with the following included, which I know you wont get from the main stream insurers;

Fully comp on any car not in household
Anyone can drive my cars as long as they dont live with me, unless named on policy
All vehicles at agreed value, both offered upto 150% of purchase price for when the GT 3 arrives
Business use included

All this is far and above the usual cover you get from Admiral, Aviva etc. and it is great to actually speak with the insurer / broker rather than working with limited restrictions online.

I know a lot of you on PH will already insure cars with companies like the above so will know all this, my update is for the uneducated like myself who use online price checking sites for quotes.

However, by chance in a conversation with my bank manager I found out my bank offers car insurance and they came back cheapest of all by some way, for the 3 cars the cover is £2700 until my home insurance renews, or estimated at £4200.00 for a year. This included the above benefits as well as

Any car bought from new will be replaced within 2 years like for like, no gap insurance required
Fully comp on any other car, although that cost an extra £138.00 and for me only
Legal cover included
Euro cover for 90 days
Choice of garage for repairs
Load car if required, although like the Chubb quote, its cheaper if you accept their standard cars, 3 series / c class etc rather than like for like car

Only downside is they are a little more expensive for the GT 3 when it arrives, guaranteed value etc and same cover as above, was about £2K as I have no NCD to carry over so may use First Point or AIB for this.

Then called Admiral to cancel and they asked was it because of cheaper cover, I told them yes but also because of all the extra benefits but they still tried to get the quote down, sadly only by £500.00

In summary biggrin
First Point and AIB are excellent, even though i didnt use them this time round, but I'm glad i found out my bank offers car insurance

Hope some of you may find this useful
