Hi everyone, I currently have an Aston V12 Vantage SM I have had its for a year and it’s my 4th V12.

I am thinking of a change and like the looks of the 570S anyone owned both or have a view of the differences?

I rather like this car, does anyone know it’s history?

Thanks in advance for any info

Hi Simon,

I have a V12 Vantage and this weekend picked up a new 570S Spider. I've only done 300 miles in the 570 but my initial impressions of the two are;

Looks - the 570 is far more 'supercar' looks and gets far more attention than my Aston. However that may be because the 570 is bright orange and Aston is grey!

Performance - the 570 feels faster already even though I've got a few more miles before I can give it full beans!

Sound - Aston sounds much better but that doesn't mean the 570 sounds bad

Handling - 570 is on Corsas and it gets the power down way better than the Aston - I swapped my Corsas on V12V to standard P eros because the Aston does struggle - the 570 on Corsas is even better than the Aston on P Zeros. 570 has a pure go kart feel - almost reminds me of my Elise - it feels much smaller and nimble than it looks and the driver involvement is awesome - definately that bit more exciting than the Aston

The ability to adjust the suspension and power train is something I've not really delved into too much yet but the ride is superb for a supercar.

In summary, I love the 570 - it was a bit of an impulse purchase but it's instantly grown on me due to the way it drives and looks. That said, the V12V is such an awesome car that I'd hate not to have it around. Both very different types of car - the Aston with it's understated elegance vs the brashness of the Mclaren.

I would highly recommend the 570S - you won't be disappointed.

I thought that when I specced my grey 540... wrong! eek It's a rare car, people like it though, 99.9% positive comments, but it's proper supercar looks, it's going to get noticed a LOT more than an Aston.

This has been discussed before on this thread:- https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

They are two very different ways of going equally fast, the vantage being much more of a fast GT, and the 570s being more of a junior supercar. Best thing to do is to go and give one a try.

I went from a V8 vantage to a 570s (in blade silver as the one you're looking at) and that was night and day, the V12 vantage is certainly closer in pure performance terms but 570s does make the Vantage feel very dated.

A couple of comments on that 570s, I wasn't a fan of the saddle tan interior against the blade silver (it looks a little too 'terracotta' for me) and IMHO it's worth searching out for a car with the interior carbon pack. Not for vanity, but you do get the extended shift paddles with that carbon pack and they are much easier to use that the smaller standard paddles.

I've got a V12VS among a fleet of supercars. I've not driven a 570S but I have driven a 720S which I'd imagine isn't dissimilar.

The V12VS is a gruff old beast of a car. It's full of 'quirks', the gearbox is notchy when cold and it's severely traction limited. On paper it's not in the same league as the McLaren and I don't think it would see which way the 570S went on a track. However does that really matter on the road?

I reckon you'll switch and it will feel like a gigantic upgrade for the first couple of months. Then you will start to miss the joy of that V12 and the fact you can enjoy it at relatively sensible speeds.

Also I think the residuals on the V12VS will remain strong whereas the 570S is somewhat unproven.

My advice, see if you can get McLaren to lend you a 570S for a weekend. A test drive tells you very little.

Simon,

I went from V12VS to 540C (not quite a 570 but darn close) 12 months ago. For me personally I found the V12VS quite “dull”. I was expecting more from it. Sadly it never got my emotions running...oh dont get me wrong they are beautiful cars and others will defend them to the hilt and I can understand why. But to me it still felt a bit GT rather than “sports”. I don’t miss the V12 noise at all. I found the McLaren a much better drive, more engaging, more exciting (they really are quick), more responsive to steering inputs and I felt more at one with the Mac. It seems to wrap itself around you. It seems to me you wear it rather than be carried around in it. I know I’ll never make a journo!

Had it out today for a nice leisurely drive and it was as tame as anything and comfortable in normal mode. And as others have mentioned it gets an awful lot of very positive attention, way, way more than the Aston.

I think you need to get yourself a couple of days with one and see how you feel. I have never for one second regretted the move.

Good luck and happy hunting.

Hi Simon I have a V12V and 12C (not a 570 obvs) and they are totally different cars.

The V12V doesn't grip anything like the Mac in terms of acceleration, braking or cornering. Completely different planet and on track it is laughable how much faster the Mac is. Almost 25 seconds a lap at SPA...

Why do I have a V12V? Because I love it, the noise, the old school driving experience and the fact that you can have fun at sensible speeds, whereas the McLaren is fun at not so sensible ones....... If I had to keep 1 only it would be the Mac regardless of the running costs (in comparison to the Aston) because it is just awesome.

Went to look at the car at Rybrook Bristol this morning. First off, a very impressive showroom and a very helpful salesman - Steve.

The car is drop dead gorgeous and made the Vantage look quite plain and dated by comparison (never thought I write that) it was very well prepped and presented immaculately.

Test drive was fun. The cabin is very comfortable and noise levels are far less the the Aston. Everything worked as it should with no dramas. It was docile and tractable in traffic with just a hint of what’s on tap once the roads warm up and there was no salesman sitting next to me.

Straight line performance figures are very similar but it’s clear even after 30 mins of chugging around that the chassis is a lot taughter and the steering is more responsive.

I am very tempted...
