Sorry to see you go.

As others have said, this thread was a big part of me deciding to buy the first 650.

I'm wondering how the sale process went - if a buyer told me they were one of those car competition things my scam alert would be very strong!

I'll miss the McLaren chat for sure, but actually looking forward to replacing it with something I'll actually use.

Sales process was honestly the easiest sale I've ever had. And significantly higher than McLaren London offered me, I'm talking five figures higher. No drive needed. Although I guess the profit margin is also significantly higher through one of these sites.

How did the site get in touch with you or do you reach out to them? Im guessing those sites purchase price is in between dealer/trade price and private price

Interesting the alternative is £65k cash.

I'm guessing that would be similar to what they've been offered as Trade is the winner chooses the cash?

Yeah I'd assume so, although believe these sites often want the winner to take the cash alternative as there is another bit more profit in selling it back to trade. So at a guess they've maybe got a bid of £70-75k, and could squeeze their profits a bit further if they car isnt taken.

McLaren has always been on the "wish" list for me but unlikely to pass the test with SWMBO as a sensible buy. Great to hear the full story end to end. Thanks for sticking with it and updating.

My current daily is Giulia QF....definitely worth a look for something that can be "used", looks great but can pick it's skirts up if you want to open the taps. They aren't that common still, and not a lot of "non-petrolheads" know much about them so they fly under the radar so to speak.

What I really want to know about that competition is "Who are Lisa and Jody and where the hell do you get a 75 mins bus ride at 05:30?" That's one hell of a Walk of Shame smile

What next for McLaren??

“McLaren’s losses swelled from £135m in 2021 to £349m last year, newly published accounts show. It equates to a deficit of almost £140,000 per car produced last year as costs crept up and deliveries stalled.”

They have been working very hard on quality control so this year was always going to be difficult. next year might as well but hopefully strong foundations moving forward.

Working on quality control is good spin on not producing many cars

Given their entry point now in the Artura is pretty expensive its a big ask really. Just when you think they are starting to get somewhere with most of the old cars issues worked out they go and set fire to an Artura!

The boil has gone off the whole market which is poor timing I also think the Artura is a bit undramatic looking for a 200k car. The way out could be an SUV but that would require another absolutely massive cash injection. I do fear the writing could be on the wall they have already sold the family jewels. Struggling with the Artura...like many manufacturers their best cars are probably behind them as we move to hybrid and coal fired.

Seems like an interesting discussion, but perhaps not directly related to OP's old 540C. Unless we think the way for McLaren Automotive to up their sales is to start running raffles for their new cars? wink
