Hello All

New to this forum and MC.

6 Sleeps to go then I collect my first ever supercar a 540 in Volcanic orange, excited is an understatement
(so not sure I will get to sleep ) how come insane purchases like this turn us back to children?

Already speced with the right bits (I think ) and Chris at Ascot is a super person to deal with. I think he
enjoyed having to deal with a straight forward person from Up North (Yorkshire).

I don't do facebook so not sure if I can work out how to join that group.
I will endeavour to join the MC org owners site.

This forum has been a wealth of info thus far really superb.

I love the story threads with pictures (not sure how I upload pics yet ) particularly ones like Justins with
loads of incredible pictures.

Had gtechniq added and considering ppf.

Please by all means repeat any Newbie top tips of 540 ownership, driving, cleaning etc

thank you and perhaps I will get to meet others at some point

Congrats and got my 540c a couple of months ago and an amazing car in just the short period I have owned it. Know exactly what the feeling is like waiting for that collection day to arrive.

I'm also from "Up North" as are a number of McLaren owners so look forward to seeing more pics and maybe seeing it in the flesh.

Join the Owners Club as some great banter and also wealth of experience and tips from others of owning these cars.

As it was an in stock car I didn't choose the colour but it is amazing plus its almost impossible
to get a picture to reflect the actual reality.

In the flesh it's incredible, wife says its too brash, should have gone dark grey ?

Yes its Volcano Orange

Will join club soon this url ? https://www.mclarenowners.org.uk/

Welcome! Lovely colour choice. Is your front splitter also in palladium? I'm considering getting mine done at the next service.

Haven't driven mine for a couple of weeks now, but will update my thread this week coming.

The 540 is the first car I've owned in a long time that I really can't wait to get back out for another drive.

No the front is just standard plastic.

My drive has serious cobbles which are very uneven, hopefully the lifter copes

However part of the deal with my better half was new car, new house!!!!!

So managed to not move for 17 years, but at least if it all works out the new place
currently a double garage but not built fully yet so may go triple with a normal
Not Steep Drive.

Then you are quite right splitter needs painting

Needs to be done IMHO. I can't believe McLaren let it go out in matt plastic. Looks so cheap on a £150k car. The costs of painting it at the factory would be minimal so clearly a case of the bean counters winning which I get with some spec but not this

It's probably just to help differentiate between the two a bit more than a couple of badges. Agreed it looks better.

What car have you arrived from OP?

Normal company car sloppy, heavy Cayenne Hybrid

Wife's has Boxster 718 superb ride compliant, with the "boring" flat 4 at 300brake
(its not boring,I love the pdk and quite like it's sound)

2012 Cayman S away for safe keeping, hard ride but real flat 6

So nothing in this mega world of transport looking forward to getting used to it,
only and hour test drive thus far! Porsche brake pedal bang in centre of footwell
Mc offset somewhat, but Mac brakes similar to older Cayman you need to use your leg
as opposed to the feather light, hybrid

I confidently predict the Cayman won't get a look in once you get your Mac.

I kept my 981 Boxster GTS for less than a week after picking up the 570 before deciding to sell. I just couldn't see when I would ever choose to use it over the Mac. It didn't do anything better, other than debatably the noise. (Saying that personally I do really like the often maligned sound of the 570 with sports exhaust)

You are probably quite right, although I am a little concerned 540 is wide I will need to get used to it, Cayman is tiny narrow, with lots of numptys on UK roads in 2018 that have no concept of positioning.

I had similar concerns prior to getting my car but the visibility is such that honestly it has never once occurred to me in use.

The first class driving position & all round excellent visibility out of the car is night & day better than anything else I've driven making car placement even round winding country lanes a doddle.

The fast super communacative steering makes short work of negotiating even the tiniest traffic islands where as I alway found them a bit of a chore in the Boxster for some reason.

5 Sleeps to go

Already i am struggling to sleep, what is happening to me it's 05:00 in the a.m on a Saturday!

Any running in tips? Less than 5,000 revs don't use sport, keep in normal for how many
miles?

Trip back to Yorkshire will be 200 miles then no doubt a 50-80 mile trip with my wife on the collection evening super gentle or I will be in big trouble.

What made you buy from Ascot OP? Was it t a case that they had the car you wanted?

After saying that, what a lovely drive back home that will be.

Enjoy the pickup smile

Reading the owners manual may help to pass the long days until collection & subsequent understanding of how to get the best out of your cars features.

See here-http://cars.mclaren.com/files/live/sites/mclaren/files/downloads/Owner%20Manuals/V2%20Dec%202017/Owner%20Manual%20-%20Sports%20Series%20-%20Europe%20-%20English.pdf

There is a section on running in for the first 625 miles in the manual. I'd suggest not allowing the car to do those miles in auto as its far too keen to get itself in high gears for economy reasons with less than 2000 rpm on the clock. What you need is to be varying the revs & loads on the engine in the early miles.

Once the engine is warm (Don't let it sit there ticking over for more than a minute or two, never known a car to warm its oil so quickly) use the gears manually to change the revs up & down, don't be afraid to use a decent amount of revs as the miles increase & do constantly vary the acceleration rates, just steer clear of full throttle until you've got a good few hundred miles on it using the above technique.

Mine has done 800 miles in two weeks ownership & the oil level is 2 bars down from the top on the display, not requiring a top up. Worst thing you can do for a new engine is treat it like its got an egg under the throttle & not change the load & revs by just sticking it in top at the earliest opportunity, in bad cases that can lead to glazed bores & very high oil consumption issues.

As a for instance I got just over 16 to the gallon on the first tankful running the car in whilst sticking to county A & B roads doing the above, often not going above 4th gear but all the time changing the throttle position & varying the acceleration, no motorways or dual carriageways until it had done 300 odd miles & the odd bit of hard acceleration.

Took it over to Paintshield in Peterborough on Monday for a full front PPF & by way of contrast with plenty of motorway included on a normal journey it did a very impressive 29 to the gallon over that 200 miles. I more or less left it alone in auto (as it had done over 500 miles before I set off) still seems over keen to put itself in 7th gear often below 45 mph on a light throttle (which feels wrong as its something like 1300rpm) so I tended to override that by going to manual if stuck at that speed or put into sport auto.
