I'm guessing its a pre reg and taking all of the dealer margin out of it the car stands the dealer in at £221k so with the greatest will in the world they are not going to sell it at less than that at this stage. 6 months down the line at year end for a cash purchase I'm sure you would achieve £220 or slightly better

£227.5k after some heavy negotiation might buy the car IMHO so thats your target price. Anything else will not be a credible offer or entertained by the dealer potentially rubbing him up the wrong way but thats your perrogative. I'd rather agree a sensible price that works for both parties with some integrity
Sub £230 for a £260k list car is still a good price and saving for such a highly rated car
Based on what? Top 555 haven’t shifted their car (which the ad says listed to 280k) in many weeks at 237. A little birdie told me they gave 215 for it, and I’d guess it’ll come for some way less than their asking price now, so (for example) if that’s likely to be available for at least 60 under list, so I don’t see the logic in 230 for a 260 list car being a good price. Not suggesting that car is 200, but it soon will be.

Perhaps it's the color? Notice Saros Blue cars are sitting at the lower end of the market by far.

Depends on the circumstances of how they obtained the car in the first place how much it owes them. If it was a distressed sale with someone needing quick cash they may well have got it for £215k. They are also an independent that can exist on lower margins as they do not have franchise standards to adhere to.
The Memphis red car is far more appealing colour IMHO and from a main dealer who obviously does not have that size of margin in the car in the first place.
TBH its these independents getting hold of the cars at silly prices which is effecting residuals and what McLaren needs to address for both its customers and dealers.
Prices do not reflect the quality of the car merely the supply and demand equation.
To me bought at the right price these cars are the supercar bargain. With most things you quite often pay for the name but that's not the case with McLaren at this stage of its brand life. It wont always be that way as the demand continues to increase provided McLaren controls supply and increases its dealer network which is down to the dealer/manufacturer business model

You seem to know the blokes at Mac Bristol and how it all works. Would they source this car for me if I asked?

I was in my local Ferrari dealership, the salesman was bemoaning the loss of a sale to McClaren because they gave his customer a very large discount he couldn't come close to matching. I wonder is some of the initial depreciation on 720's is because the break-even point is lower than the list price might suggest.

They would obviously prefer to sell you one of their own but they could do a trade to trade deal with Top 555 but the only problem with that is 2 parties want to take margin out of the deal. You could use it as a bargaining tool but rather than get too focussed on the last couple of thousand of pounds I think you should focus on the spec of car you want and less so the last £ note.
Memphis red is my favourite colour on the 720S but colour is a personal thing. Why buy a supercar and have it in a dark dull colour. Buy the car you want which more often than not is not the cheapest on the market.
If the grey has not sold due to its colour ( I'm not personally saying that its not like yellow for example which is a marmite colour) you are likely to suffer the same fate when you dispose of it.
Whichever car you end up buying you will immediately lose £20k minimum

Gotcha. Cheers for that. I'm liking the color of the Memphis Red car more, but it has so little carbon and no upgraded Bowers and Wilkins. Doesn't have 360 cam or sports exhaust either. This TOP555 car has pretty much every carbon option ticked, 360 cam, sports exhaust, visible Monocage II, carbon roof... Just a far better spec, besides the color.

Don't get me wrong, this is certainly a nice problem to have, but I'm so damn confused right now, haha!

So why has the 555 car not sold ?
A friend placed he thought a reasonable offer but no go .
I am sure you will get a better offer from a dealer as previously been said and don’t forget that dealer support you need when purchasing a Mclaren .
Buy what “ lights your candle “ but be level headed .

Just wanted to say thank you to all of you again for being the angels and devils on either shoulder! Am fairly young so I tend to get over excited and jump the gun a little. Been dreaming of a supercar for many, many years now, since I could walk as a kid, really. So now that it's tantalisingly close, I'm getting a bit antsy and jumpy.

Will try to remain level headed. Update you guys on Monday, am going into Bristol.. Again. These trips from Exeter are racking up miles on the E63 alright! Love it!

From what you have said and I know its hard but I would wait until the right car comes up as sure as eggs the minute you pull the trigger on a compromised car the right one will come along a week later.
There are certain options you can afford to compromise on and others that are more essential and for me a sports exhaust would be a big one. Carbon is really lovely and nice to have and mega expensive from new but in reality 2nd hand you are lucky to get 20% of that value back.
Be good to see another McLaren in Exeter/Torquay, I often get lonely lol

This is actually great advice. Patience is a virtue and incredibly difficult when you are wrapped up in the emotion of buying a car, especially when you are realising long held dreams.

But... cars really are like buses and another two or three will be just around the corner. The one I have just bought I waited nearly six months as I watched the price steadily fall to a point where I knew it was time to strike a deal.

Easily said but hang on and the right one will come along at the right price for you.

Then post some pics biggrin

Quick update for you guys. Went in today and my heart couldn't say no to the red car. Better spec, carbon, etc be damned. Might die tomorrow. F### it. So I bought it. Delivery is sometime next week. Car going for PPF and all that first. My hype levels are through the roof. Not sure I can wait that long tbh!

Anyway. Thank you all very much for the advice. Will post more as I collect her, etc. I'll be coming to a bunch of PH events and the likes sometime soon too!

Here's a quick picture I grabbed of her.

I've been amused by some of the posts in your thread (not yours) lots of wannabees, bottom line is if your want for the car is high enough and your personal man maths says yes then of course you have made the correct decision. Big congratulations, the car looks sensational. beer

Exactly. Enjoy!!! Looks awesome!

I had the same decision to make with my GT. I wanted a decent colour and certain bits in carbon. I knew I would never see the money back, but knew that every time I looked at the car I would remember not speccing those bits. I am so happy with my decision, and f**k the extra £14k it cost me.
