My 650 has spent the majority of the past 6 months at a dealer (long story, but about three months having faults fixed), with possibly two weeks hooked up to a battery charger.

I should be getting it back next week, and I am concerned about the condition of the battery given that it has not been on charge for the majority of the time.

I know one can check the voltage, but McLaren state that a battery charger should be hooked up if the car is not used for extended periods and this has got me worried.

If it were a regular battery then no big deal, I'd just change it, but with a lithium battery that hasn't been charged for 6 months will I be needing to spend 2k on a battery in a couple of months?

Of course, the dealer is telling me it's fine, but to say I don't trust them is an understatement.

I'm sure it will be fine. There is a reading on the dashboard that gives you the battery charge everytime you get in and out of the car or you can scroll through the info menu to check it.
If it was completely drained at any stage I would be holding them liable for a new battery anyway so don't worry. Whilst the car is in their possession its their responsibility to maintain it.

The lowest mine has ever read is 87% and that wasn't on charge or used for at least 2 months.

When you get it back check the readings regularly for a few weeks and hopefully that will restore your confidence.

Have to say my 650S spider and dealer have both been faultless in 3 years of ownership

Rybrook Bristol. Always bend over backwards to accommodate my requests but to be fair I've also dealt with Manchester and Birmingham who have also both been ok.

I even had 1 service at Ascot which was perfectly fine as well so maybe I'm lucky

Which car was/is it ? Can't believe its taken them that long to solve any issues and if it has I would look to be rejecting the damn thing

I bought it in January, was away in February so delivery arranged for March. Had it a week and a bit and then it went back to get things sorted. A few issues, hopefully now all sorted bar one....the doors latches are faulty and need replaced or the alarm keeps going off at random hours....been told today they haven't got the latches, expecting them tomorrow, but if they don't arrive there isn't a back up plan.....they're the same latches as in the 720 so I've told them to take them out of one of those if necessary.

For the past two months they've had a deadline of this Friday to get it back to me otherwise I will reject it. I've been more than patient and accommodating, and for me the whole McLaren ownership / Rybrook Bristol experience is one I would not wish upon anyone.

Sorry to hear that and sometimes these things do happen unfortunately.

TBH the 650S is without doubt the most reliable car McLaren have built but understand these minor issues can be irritating especially if the parts are on back order for weeks. I would of pushed to be put in a 720S demo whilst the car was in their workshop and that might of focused their minds on dealing with it promptly and efficiently.
Hopefully it all get resolved quickly now and you get to enjoy the car over the summer

Thanks RL.

I regularly read on here how happy people are with their 650s, and the only reason I'm so patient is because I think once these niggles are behind me, I will be the same.

Friday is "line in the sand day" though....

I have been using my 650S Spider as a DD for 3 years and it has been terrific.
