Mine did something similar, I was told "they all do that" I left it with them as i wasn't convinced, it took the flying doctor from working to come and diagnose it - faulty cam adjusters. being done now at Hatfield McLaren under warranty.

No McLaren experience but normal on Audi R8’s.

ECU is responsible, I think it keeps some exhaust valves open for 30-60 seconds beforehand closing them?
My R8 does this, going to have it removed via a remap as it is brutal for the neighbours at 6am in conjunction with the Quicksilver exhaust.
In the R8 apparently it's a secondary air injection into the cats accompanied by a fast (1200RPM) idle for 30 seconds to warm the cats up. Apparently it's all for emissions so makes no difference if you stop it doing it.

Thanks, started it today and for first maybe three seconds it sounded like an engine with hydraulic tappets that have not fully opened then sounded good. Judging by these posts i think its fine but will get it checked out. cheers

Had log book back for 650s spyder but is registered as mp4 12c and in variant its logged as coupe. Spoke to mclaren who have been very helpful and provided me with some documentation to change the variant description at DVLA. Has anyone had similar v5 description probs.
