I've bought plenty of cars that 'might' just need a little bit of work. Buy the cheapest as the most expensive might still need work doing, used to be my mantra. After getting my fingers (and wallet) burnt far too often I have changed my view. There is no way I would buy this car. Even if you were lucky and it only cost you £20k to put right you would still only be £15K away from one with 20% of the mileage and in much better condition. Its just not worth it!
people pay £600-900 a day to rent out a 12c and a diesel golf is £30k these days though!AyBee said:
People are mental! £60k is a crazy amount for that when you can get one with a third of the mileage, proven history, and eligible for warranty for £20k more!
"cheap mclaren init"yeah at 60k, you're better off spending 15-20k and getting one that is well looked after, has a much higher resale value and it covered if anything goes wrong.

If you read the reported service history, it's not seen a main dealer for 35k miles which would surely put off 99.9% of those interested, even if it was a very cheap car...
^ this. You would have to be slightly or more than slightly crazy to buy this car.Just because it’s not seen a main dealer doesn’t mean it hasn’t been serviced
My sisters partner works for one of these track day things. And after each event the cars get new oil and filters, coolent and brakes checked every event etc etc
If a car made for hard driving can’t handle it then what’s the point? They tend to do 3 laps 10 times a day, not normally flat out either.

Serious question, what makes it so hard to change the oil filter , oil etc. that only a Mclaren dealer can do it?!
Nothing but can you be sure it has actually been done at all elsewhere? If the car had a sheaf of receipts from Thorney or Backdraft then fair enough. It seemed to simply have no documented service or maintenance done for 3+ years. And especially if the car was an ex trackday hire/experience car, even with perfect servicing records I'd likely think twice due to my own personal experience with my 12c.Edited by isaldiri on Sunday 27th January 19:21

LOL you say that like £20K is chump change. First barrier to spending an additional £20k is having the funds in the first place.GregorFuk said:

Doubt it will have been serviced at your local tyre shop.......................
At the end of the day it's significantly cheaper than the other cars, worth the risk to someone :-)

Again just because it says Mclaren on the top of the servicing invoice, doesn't mean it's any better than a passionate independant.

I didn't disagree that a good independent could do at least as good a job as a Mclaren main dealer did I? My issue with that car was that the service history was nonexistent for 3 years whether or not from your local tyre shop and not that it didn't have 'full Mclaren service history'.Doubt it will have been serviced at your local tyre shop.......................
That’s the beauty of auctions. You get 2 guys in the room (who probably don’t know what they’re getting into) and you get an inflated price
You get a great car in a room where only one serious buyer is present and you can get a bargain
On the face of it the price looks mad. Unless it’s some You-Tuber who wants to do it up on film? In which case the “value” comes from a different route
