Well what a great morning that was! Sun managed to come out so got to drop the roof down which certainly adds to the occasion. It's simply the best car I have driven (currently have a V12VS). The feel through the steering and how direct it is is just different gravy, such an agile car. My V12 is a lovely car to hustle down a b road but you can feel the weight when you compare it to a 570S, defo a fair step on in engineering terms. The engine needs to be above 4500 to really start to pick up feels like there is some turbo lag (expected I suppose). Once over 5k it's an absolute rocket ship though and the exhaust noise is really good when you get the revs up. It still wouldn't match the V10 in the R8/Huracan or the V12 for aural pleasure but it was better than I expected. McLaren really nailed this car I think, Alcantara steering wheel feels just right and not too thick either. The colour is blade silver which is really lovely especially with the contrasting palladium bits. The suspension is wonderful too my V12 can feel a bit crash over bumpy surfaces but the 570 much less so. Love the up shifts in track mode gives you a shunt in the back yet use auto mode on the motorway and it's a v relaxed car. So it's incredibly accomplished and overall I'm well impressed...lots to think about for me. A spider would be too much of a stretch but a coupe around the 100k mark seems the sweet spot for me, will wait until later in the summer going to the ring in late sep so if I do pull the trigger it would have to be before then!
I can feel a change on the cards The amazing thing about the McLaren is that if you try a 600LT then it’s a significant step up over the 570S, something that seems impossible given how good the 570S is.
Certainly agree about the sound - the V12V certainly sounds better. Whilst the 570 is quicker than the V12V, I do like the V12’s torque as for regular driving you never need to change down to get a pretty rapid turn of speed whereas in the McLaren you do sometimes need to drop a couple of cogs.

This remind me when I drove a demo car last year. Yes amazing car, have you got a Track Pack car?Yeah I have never been more impressed with a car took my young son out in it this eve (he's almost 3) and he was so excited he loved when I gave it some beans going under a few bridges, good times! Dropping it back tomorrow morning so will have a chat and discuss options, timing for a switch now isn't ideal as my wife expecting twins in a few weeks so next few months I'm gonna be knee deep in nappies doubt I'll see the light of day for a few months! Aug Sep time better time frame but let's see! Missus has already warned me to not even think about changing...standard!

A chap in this week's Autocar letters page not too impressed - complaining about corrosion issues on two cars and the depreciation. Sounded like the bodywork was dissolving before his eyes! A bit of an exaggeration, presumably, but more bad press for Mclaren.
Yup, a few cars had issues with "worms" under the paint from aluminium not being prepared properly. Issues fixed with no quibbles by McLaren. My last 2 Jags had paint issues, as had the Merc before it. The former had mismatched paint on panels and the latter had it's turbo blow 100 yards out of the dealer plus bubbles on the surface.
Some owners in the owners club have had issues, all have been sorted. Vast, vast majority have none. Not saying the Autocar author had axes to grind .. nope .. not saying any such thing.

Autocar is still going? - havn't read a copy for years - and what buffoon would actually write a letter to it
Well a “buffoon” who bought a McLaren!?I do think the comments about i) Autocar and ii) the letter writer, are just rude and totally unnecessary.
That’s my point.

If he has issues with the McL paintwork - the dealer will sort it - no problem I do think the comments about i) Autocar and ii) the letter writer, are just rude and totally unnecessary.

As for depreciation - new car depreciates shocker

For those non-buffoons and those who don't read Autocar (!), essentially he said that the bodywork issues were so bad that Mclaren "replaced virtually every panel". He then went on to say that the new panels then developed similar issues. But bizarrely, then says he bought another one which then had similar issues! Talk about a sucker for punishment... It definitely sounds a bit fishy to me and I was a little surprised that Autocar printed it as presumably the facts were unsubstantiated. As for depreciation - new car depreciates shocker
I must say that I looked closely at a number of Macs this morning from early 12C to new 600LT and the paint on all of them looked superb (well, perhaps apart from the 600LT bedecked in a fetching shade of undercoat grey ... ) .

Happened to give mine a clean today - bodywork and paint is perfect and I must confess a step above the V12V, which seems to scratch quite easily.Edited by drcarrera on Sunday 28th April 15:29

Despite despite despite.
It’s all what I hear.
Stick fact is that many cars have issues, many don’t...no consistency, lots of ad hoc issues.
....and I keep staring at 600LTs like starving and staring on a sunday roast like it was the best car on the market.
I dunno, despite having a car that had plenty of niggles, I would go back to the brand purely because I was taken care of so well on a dealer level. Yeah, my car was in the "shop" for a total of 30+days in the last 8 months, one major service included, but I was never left without a supercar to drive on events or even for a night out on the town. They always provided me with a 570S, or a 570GT, or really whatever took my fancy on the forecourt. No mileage restrictions, and no one got pissy when I took a loaner 570GT for a 600mi round trip for dinner, LOLIt’s all what I hear.

Would I own one out of warranty? No. Would I own one inside warranty given it weren't my only vehicle? Absolutely.
You'd have to be absolutely bloody mental to have any supercar as your singular, only vehicle, so you may as well jump in and give it a go.
