Sarnie, you do a great job striking a warmly reassuring tone. Please keep it up, speaking as someone who has a kindling interest right now.
The McLaren "reliability" chat is as boring as Brexit to be honest...….both have everyone worrying and most people don't know what they're actually worried about...….

Been out today...……...didn't break down!! smile

I went out today too, and by sheer coincidence, I didn't break down either!

Same here. Survived a full day trip in the 650s without being stranded and resorting to needing a ride from a mass murderer.

More importantly, the (carsickness sensitive) wife noticed how much "smoother" it was than the Tesla we normally take longer trips in...

That's a stunning colour in your 720S..How are you finding it compared to your 991.2GT3 in terms of driving enjoyment..?

Hi Taffy.

It’s very early days with the 720S, only 300 miles and still in the initial running in phase whereas I’ve done 7.5k miles in the 991.2GT3. Notwithstanding this disparity and acknowledging that the GT3 is pretty damn fast, the 720S seems mindbendingly quick even at half the revs. With just a whisper of throttle from low revs the massive torque sends it to warp speeds in no time at all. Turbo lag imperceptible and unlikely to be a constraint in the real world.

I run the handling in Comfort mode. There is no roll yet it smooths out the ride over our crappy potholed British roads in a way the GT3 can’t come close to. I’m not sure the ride is any better than the 650S for the current pootling about but that said I always thought the 650S ride was its standout quality. A run to Switzerland should give a better idea of its overall character.

Inside, the McL driving position is perfect though I prefer the GT3 folding buckets. The theatrical doors are less impractical than you might think and the soft close mechanism works well. I find the McL instruments far too Playstation and dislike all the offerings but they are not configurable which is a shame as it’s only a glorified iPad. The conventional Porsche layout more my sort of thing.

Nice car and no faults. Which is more than you could say for the GT3 which at 200 miles was off to OPC to have the front axle lift fixed. laugh

Not wanting to make this toxic, just the opposite, but for those that had problems, what ended up being the main issues? I know that thermostats have a way of going to st (quite a normal one on modern performance cars), coolant pipes spilling out, but what more?
All those electric glitches, couldn't that just be a battery that is not healthy (ala Ferrari style) or a bad/disconnected ground?

I'm asking this, because if potential buyers and owners know what it might go wrong, it could actually help with reputation, as well as preventive maintenance and to keep a look on what usually goes.

I know Porsche is a bit hated around these parts for some reason, but the fact that everything that fails with any gt3 is public and maniacally explored is one of the reasons people like and buy the damn cars. 997.2 gt3 rs was riddled with a couple of verious serious problems, people found permanent solutions for them as well as Porsche, so now everyone that buys one knows exactly what to look for and how to make the car anxiety free.

It actually looks like it's 3,600 miles which as you say in that time, is nearly a thousand miles a week.

Nice to see this one get resolved. Shame it took a YouTube campaign before McLaren did what they should have done to start with

But don’t worry other McLaren owners, Matty3’s car is ok. As long as they keep him happy all is ok in the world! beer
Lol - just seen this Rob smile

Absolutely, but for all my talents wink I can't save McL alone but will comment as they have been superb to me and will rail, especially where folk feed false information and will never assist a failed flipper smile - btw shall I comment on my 'friends' recent AM experience? - most definitely not as it's not my bag or place - enjoy the summer smile

Seems pretty typical of most YouTube Vloggers, not just motoring either - especially from America

Don’t know anything about Thorney and they do seem from their website fairly full of their own abilities around McLarens.

Nevertheless if they provide a high servicing and maintenance service at lower costs than main dealers then that’s a positive.

Would like to see more reviews on what they have serviced/ maintained from their McLaren customers before committing to them though !!
