I made a post about this topic in another thread and thought it would be better having its own thread so at a click future owners can see the actual costs rather than guesses.

The 650 spider that I am thinking about turns 4 years old in October; currently under the extended McLaren warranty and just had a strut replaced under the warranty which the cost would of been around £2800 plus collection if no warranty.

Just of the phone to McLaren Glasgow to enquire about service and extending warranty in October; oil & filter change and inspection shall be £1310 and to extend the warranty a further £3980 on top of that, so a total of £5290 for service and warranty on its 4th birthday.

To extend the warranty on its 5th birthday its £4981 on top of the larger 5 year service next year.

To arrange a pre purchase inspection of a 650 spider before buying it would be £450.

Are these the figures that all the McLaren dealer are doing or has owners paid cheaper?

It was mentioned that they would consider a price match if other McLaren dealers were somehow cheaper for servicing.

I appreciate Thorney does it cheaper but being located in the east cost of Scotland he is a wee bit too far away! However it would be handy if he posted up his costs here so they were in the one place rather than lost in other topics for ease of comparison. I am sure he mentioned somewhere about a replacement strut cost but i unfortunately cannot find it, hence why it would be handy if it was in a designated thread.

If you do join in, please don't post about how cheap Porsche warranties are as I'm not looking to buy a Porsche.

Not sure why you need a pre-purchase inspection if the car is under warranty, do you know how many miles it has done since it's last service & warranty extension?

Presumably he's thinking of extending the warranty when it's due to expire and means the warranty extension inspection not pre purchase.

IME it was possible to waive the inspection cost if doing a service but I was always doing more than a simple oil change/annual service on my car when i had it after the 4th year so perhaps I had a bit more leeway with the inspection.

Do you know the cost of the 5 year service? It seems to be the only figure you've missed.

It's interesting to see the numbers.

The car is 400 miles away and wanted to know about brake wear and any other items that would not fall under warranty; also to let me know how the condition of the Volcano paintwork, alloys and tyres.
I would lose a day plus fuel costs to have a look myself so £450 seems a cheaper option; it means if all ok i can make the journey once and come home with it without any disappointment.

I wasn't charged any inspection fee to extend the warranty, I thought a fee was only payable if the warranty had lapsed?

The price for service and warranty were a simple A + B so i assumed that if both were carried out together there was no charge for an inspection if the warranty was being extended.

My bad, he did mention a pre purchase inspection that I missed. In theory though I thought the warranty inspection is required but can be waived if part of a service.

Fair enough, makes perfect sense if you're that far away...
