Not sure if mentioned earlier, but I'd recommend trying Nowell and Richards for insurance.

NFU wouldn't insure me due to 1) location, 2) tricky drivers licence situation, and 3) no comparable car experience (Cayman S's and Guilia QF's are not comparable - which is fair enough).

Nowell and Richards were recommended by McLaren Birmingham due to my licence situation, gave me a quote at about half of anyone else that was willing to quote. I dealt with Jon Wright there, would recommend speaking to him.

I haven’t read the whole thread so apologies if this has already been covered; but have you tried AIB and also Carbon (McLaren put me on to them). Both came back to me with much better quotes than I was getting through my own searches/calls and Admiral who I had used previously for all my other cars. All the issues around using McLaren parts and McLaren garages are covered, car is covered for the price you paid not market price, replacement equivalent courtesy car plus things like your’re fully covered to drive anyone else’s car and them yours too. Not sure what quotes you’ve had but they came in way, way u see everything wise i was getting

Manning refused to quote because I am coming from a 981 GTS.

I’ll try AIB and Carbon.

I’ll speak to Carbon tomorrow, do they need an active tracker?

It turns out that Admiral quote I had was with an active tracker, they simply wont ask me for any certificate of the tracker to set the policy up however the lady said it will be needed in case car gets stolen....w/o tracker their quote is not worth, i.e. delta more than the cost of the tracker subscription.

To be fair lady was a bit foggy, as she said you wont need our little box, however the policy states if my car have alarm and tracker and if she puts “no” at the voice “tracker” then price goes up.

I didn’t want to play dumb, so poked the lady and here we are with bad news...hopefully tomorrow I’ll have some joy from Carbon which is linked to my current insurance (Porsche insurance)...

Have you tried Churchill ? £530 fully comp - make sure you say you want the cover to start in at least 1 weeks time - if you say you need it covered tomorrow the price doubles

Thank you.

Both AIB and Carbon were told this week.

st, dont think they will revise quote...I have told them though about the better quote I already have, they indeed asked me for a target.

Admiral left on the table...

Carbon tried to divert me from them saying No agreed value, no approved repaires...

With regards to repairs, any McLaren that has Elite paint can only be repaired by a McLaren approved bodyshop as you can only get elite paint from Woking....no suppliers are allowed to supply paint to any other paintshops.

Up here there is only one approved body repair centre. yikes

Done the deal with Admiral, tweaked excess and increased no claim bonus (Porsche Insurance Carbon were wrong and had to sort it for them through the previous Porsche insurance broker)

I have an MSO colour so even worse!

Sure Admiral cannot let repair the car by whoever they want?

The stress is now leaving space to the excitement...getting nervous, watch this space, cannot tell more!

No, they can't...for 2 reasons.

Outside of McLaren authorised bodyshop, nobody can be supplied with elite or MSO paint, plus, more importantly, as it was mentioned by a poster before, it is unlawful for the insurer to impose such practise.

Yes but AIB was very unhelpful and miscredited Admiral repair policy with me over the phone.

Thank you all for your help.

I noticed if I press the Mc logo on the key with the doors unlocked activated the alarm, i.e. I can still open the doors (doors are not locked) but alarm goes off.

Is that normal?

Hello again,
Could you confirm on the frunk there's no lid for the tools, basically they's left exposed as well as the two black belts?

It looks like there's a part missing!

Correct, there is no cover. The tools in the polystyrene along with the warning triangle are held in place by the nylon straps.

Battery charger.

What's your best view, always plugged in or only if battery drops below a certain threshold, e.g. 50%?

What's the best battery life strategy for McLaren Li-On?

Obviously if car is left parked for more than 20 days then I would plug it....

Many thanks
