But they don't go to MTC for servicing?
And first fill will be on the production line, not outside a couple of miles down the road. I don't believe new cars leave MTC under their own power.
Cars come down the road on trade plates, still covered in their protective tape and wrap and get filled up.And first fill will be on the production line, not outside a couple of miles down the road. I don't believe new cars leave MTC under their own power.
Other cars come in and they take photos of the fuel being put in, so it goes into the service history.
Hope they get a trade discount.

Very likely press cars and pre production cars part of McLaren fleet. Not customer cars.
Check your email - happy to expand on it if you want!Honestly, it’s again every sensible rule of lean manufacturing, sending drivers to the pump station to fill customer cars.
What you see are fleet cars, own by McLaren.

Seriously, how many have they got? It really is a couple of dozen cars a day. A mix of registered cars and cars in their delivery wrapping on trade plates.Honestly, it’s again every sensible rule of lean manufacturing, sending drivers to the pump station to fill customer cars.

I believe they have a real world road test and a fill of fuel before being sent out for delivery.
Even asked a driver why he was taking a photo of the nozzle in the tank - he said it was a customer car and it was requested for the history file.
Would a dozen fill-ups per day justify the expense of the H+S requirements, pump maintenance, manufacturing infrastructure and logistics to run your own filling station when there is one just down the road?
I'm sure McLaren have done the maths and come to the right conclusion for their needs.

The cars go on a local shakedown and use the Shell petrol stations down the road from MTC to fill up.
Around 20 cars per day are built at McLaren. The locals get to see a lot of them!

My nephew lives very close to the MTC, so close he takes his dog for a walk in the grounds by the lake. He sees many Macs on a daily basis being filled up at this petrol station.

This is pure sci fi theory!
Cars get filled in plant, not tested outside nor filled on petrol station. It would be a hell of a job.
I was at the MTC in June as part of a MOC UK organised visit. Was told by the guide when being shown the assembly plant area that every car is sent for a real world road test as soon as it comes off the production line. I was very surprised.Cars get filled in plant, not tested outside nor filled on petrol station. It would be a hell of a job.

Who gets the Shell points?
Don't quote me on this, but I think they were done as a charity donation until the new app launched - but now the drivers all have the app. Mostly because they save money on their coffee!TB993tt said:
Any reasonably sized fuel buyer has a Platts pricing agreement with Shell for their fuel cards, there are no promos available for fuel purchased no points, coffee or cheap toy cars.
Incorrect! That was only for commercial transport cards.
And since the end of Drivers’ Club, everyone can get the benefit of the app.

I estimate £20k pa in wages to fill up (10 minutes per car, £25ph wages, 20 cars/day, 5 days/wk, 52 wks/yr).
If they cut the filling time down to 5 minutes per car, could they run a filling station in the factory for £10k pa? I doubt it.
I am sure cars get filled with a minimum qty on the manufacturing line before going out to the pump, no fuel tanks are shipped by suppliers with fuel inside. If they cut the filling time down to 5 minutes per car, could they run a filling station in the factory for £10k pa? I doubt it.
Unless brand new McLarens run with air rather than petrol?

If I can buy all fuel at non pump rates (and forego the promos for my employees) I would hope that Mclaren are doing the same.
You could get Platts pricing but still have Drivers’ Club eligibility, or you could have A Commercial Road Transport deal without Drivers’ Club eligibility. However, since the launch of the new Go+ app, ALL card holders get rewards.
