I thought you had done a deal on a spider?
So did I! I agreed a price on a Volcano Red 650 Spider but subject to an inspection by Thorney Motorsport but it failed miserably due to seized turbo actuator and worn cam followers and other associated bits where it had been run low on oil or had been thrashed from cold. Quoted £14800.00 to repair and dealer refused to cover it unsurprisingly so I backed out and got my deposit returned, back to the small ads again.
I only know of 1 in Volcano Red for sale currently...its in a dealers located in London...scratchchin

When i was picking my car up from a service they had another 650 spider in for a service...it was really rough looking and all 4 discs were shot...the mind boggles how some owners let them go like that.. its still a £100k + asset.

Yeah the original owner did a nice job alright! Couple of things my spare fob doesn't seem to be working at all ( didn't check it yday) perhaps a new battery needed? The main fob works fine but only very close to the car from over 10ft away it doesn't lock or unlock, previous cars the fob always worked from a good distance away. The reverse camera is pretty rubbish definition wise, now I'm not asking for 4k but this looks like 360p. The car drives like a dream tho so confidence inspiring really can't wait to try on on track.

Don't think I've ever used the fob to lock or unlock my car, but have used it for opening the trunk - that works easily from well over 10ft away.

I assume you mean when using the fob itself to lock/unlock? Mine (650s) works from almost too far away - maybe 15m. Need to keep it in a metal box at home. Just change the batteries.

In the 570s at least you have some size to the rear camera. On the 650s, I remember laughing out loud on my test drive at how silly it looked on the portrait IRIS screen (I’d come in the Tesla with its 17in 1080p rear camera). I just use the dipped rear view mirrors.

How clean the rear camera is makes a huge difference to its resolution, and being located low down at the rear it's always dirty!

You're a cash buyer right ? Do you have autotrader search alerts set up as some cars appear there overnight and then are gone quite quickly if well priced, another thing is you can hit the heart icon to add a particular car to a watch list which helps you keep track of how long its been advertised for. I just noticed a black track pack car at GVE London that's been advertised since Jun, they just knocked another £10k off it now down at £94,900. I enquired about this car back in September when it was listed at the old price, dealer was rubbish at coming back to me with part ex value etc so I gave up however part ex not a problem for you.

I am a cash buyer yeah, I have seen that car. It’s actually advertised in 2 places now.

Both are equally rubbish at getting back to you still. Funny you should say that.

I have been keeping my eye on pistonheads and autotrader daily . I have now increased my budget too, something will come up that fits the bill.

Just thought I'd update the thread given I've had the car over 2 months now and it just went in yday for a check over ahead of warranty renewal. My spare fob wasn't working at all so both fobs being replaced under warranty as they only do them in pairs. One of the rear suspension ball joints has some slight play in it so that's also being replaced which will require a full wheel alignment afterwards ( all covered under warranty too). One of the brake cooling ducts on the front has broken off tho and I'm having that replaced but obviously not covered by the warranty. So a couple of grands worth of stuff but I only have to pay for the duct which is about £320. Glad I bought a car that was still under extended warranty as otherwise I'd have had to pay for all of the above before a new warranty could be put on it. The car itself has been great the issues mentioned above are all fairly minor and certainly didn't impact day to day use. I don't really understand people complaining about the noise these make, it really starts to sing when you get above 5k rpm and in track mode it definitely sounds plenty loud and aggressive, coming through the Hatfield tunnel yesterday it make me grin quite broadly! Overall couldn't be happier with it the new warranty will be almost £3k but seems fair enough to me given how comprehensive it is. Heading over to the Ring with it in April so looking forward to that.

Went for the Mclaren one, the Thorney one just isn't as comprehensive from my understanding.

So another update from me now over 6 months into ownership. So far the cars been fantastic and a really positive ownership experience not only in how it makes me feel but in the reactions from and interactions with random people of which there have been many. Double trackday at the Ring on the horizon in mid July so left her in to have a pre trackday inspection to make sure it's in tip-top shape for the assault on the Green Hell! A few items came up and had I not extended the warranty in Feb would have left me with quite a hefty bill. So a front damper is leaking hydraulic fluid so that needs replacing, the bushings on both the lower and upper suspension arms are split and perishing so all 4 arms will be replaced...I was aware of the top arm bushings as this was flagged to me in Feb as the prev owner didn't pay to replace them as he had the car in between warranties so that item only covered again once someone pays for em ( me!). All told not far off £6k for all of that of which approx £4400 is covered. Car has just over 20k on the clock of which I've covered 3500. Just to compare my V12 Vantage never had anything other than normal services and consumables (tyres and brake pads) and same for the R8 V10 before it. Are the suspension arm bushings a common issue at that kind of mileage? Anyway I'm ahead on my warranty purchase for this yr already but I guess the parts being replaced now will be good for a few yrs at least. As often said these cars may have halved in price but they still coming with the running costs of a £170k car.

llet.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet here bud. How much do Thorney Motorsport charge for the inspection ? Seems like a good move IMO

Good to see you are still enjoying the car and great you are happy to post updates warts and all. But are young alarmed that relatively news car needs so much fixed , albeit under warranty. Makes me worried they are not as well built as say a Porsche or and Audi. Ir is a case of " hell it is a Mclaren you have to forgive it for these minor issues " ?

I think it's a bit of both. Expecting it to be built aswell as an Audi or Porsche, and I think you'll be in for a disappointment. But at the same time, it's still a lot of money so just accepting a lot of issues isn't on either.

A few niggles are fine IMO, as long as they don't stop you driving it.

If I’m being honest I am a bit disappointed that these items have come up even though for the most part covered by the warranty. I’ve never had suspension bushings requiring replacement on any car before let alone at only 20k miles. I was hoping that my warranty outlay wouldn’t be recouped but so far the work done is over double what the warranty cost. My dealer has been superb in terms of squeezing the work in before my track day as they are quite busy. I’ve been able to enjoy the car pretty much uninterrupted since I got it which is v important hoping that with these issues sorted car will be clear until service time at yr end.
