along with SSO's fantastic posts and blogs.
Many thanks.Indeed, your posts are probably the most relevant as you currently have each of the replacement contenders, and yet the 650 remains, hanging on in there, alongside.
Unless i have missed a blog, i cannot remember you ever posting a bad word about your 650 ownership and experience; to me that speaks volumes and helps my current dilemma.

That's certainly part of it RB; i do not use the 650 on the track, so the stiffer suspension and smaller turning circle would impact how i use the car.
The last sports car i had, i had upgraded it from the same model to being the fiorano handling pack version; what it gained changed how much i used the car from the previous version...it was just a bit too uncomfy and compromised for road use and day to day journeys.
All depends on what you want and how you use it.The last sports car i had, i had upgraded it from the same model to being the fiorano handling pack version; what it gained changed how much i used the car from the previous version...it was just a bit too uncomfy and compromised for road use and day to day journeys.
Love my 650S, great car.
Adore my 675LT, another level(s). Turning circle poor but can live with that. Ride more than good enough even for euro trips.

I think doing a 700 mile round trip last Thursday in the 650 was more enjoyable than I thought..
Yesterday I decided to sack off work at around 10am and go for a blast just to get away from it all.
As I am on the east coast of Scotland I decided that yesterday was the perfect day to go on a wee jaunt to where 'Skyfall' was filmed up on the west coast around Glencoe and Glen Etive.
Planned the route to avoid all duel carriageways so went the backroads through Coupar Angus, Blairgowrie, Aberfeldy, Kenmore, Killin and a similar route on the way back but going via Bridge of Earn and through Fife.
If any of you petrolheads have not been fortunate enough to get up this way, it is on your doorstep and not to be missed. People get focused on the North Coast 500, but really, most of the highland roads and scenery are just beyond stunning.
Weather was the mixed bag...beautiful sunshine, overcast, drizzle, rain and the atmospheric Highlands mist.
As per normal, the 650 spider was just amazing to be in...had the roof down for 90% of the day and not once felt uncomfortable or fidgety during the 350miles and 5.5hrs of driving...I had andling in sport and power train in track the whole trip.
I don't think you ever stop being surprised at the smallest amount of space required to overtake with the warp speed McLaren have sneaked into these cars.
Unfortunately the airbrake decided to stop playing very early on in the trip...it is only when that stops working you realise what a fantastic bit if theatre it is...cannot imagine having a sports car without it now!
Fortunately it is in at McLaren Glasgow on Monday for a pre service inspection to see if it needs any warranty work signed of for its service in 45days. They shall take care of it then.
All in all a great outing...and nothing but positive attention from almost everyone that seen the car. I don't think I would of caused more attention if I had done the trip in a UFO.
Thats over 1000 miles in a week...guess its a keeper now...

My airbrake / active spoiler failed November last year - I followed Thorney's video and had it fixed in a couple of mins, and it's been fine since.
(Although if mine was going into a dealer a couple of days later, I probably wouldn't bother either!).
Hi Dave.(Although if mine was going into a dealer a couple of days later, I probably wouldn't bother either!).
I actually pulled over and tried that as mines also failed around a year ago and Thorneys 'fix' worked that time...no joy this time.

I was asked the exact same question by the other half when u got home...i just got sucked up in the drive and never took any!To be fair I forgot to take a charging lead and my phone battery died at Glencoe...which actually made the trip even better until I had to deal with all the voicemails later last night.
Thats a fantastic pic you have there especially being in the 'bang on' spot....yesterday the weather was exactly the same in the first 'skyfall' pic.
Next time I shall leave early, take the missus and make a proper day of it.
I did catch myself on multiple times with a huge smile on the trip...anyone that seen me must of thought I was a 'no righter'!
Another plus for the 650S here...I recently was in the market for a R8 V10 Plus or a McLaren 570S and spent time in both of these. In the end I opted for a 650S.
I quickly decided that the McLaren felt a more special car of the two cars in the running, and when searching for a Mac I couldn't get past the fact that a used 650S was similar money to the 570S whilst it had a list price of anything between £50k-£100k more than the 570S. So as far as bang for buck goes I couldn't look past the 650S and when driving one over the 570S I personally can feel the superiority in terms of suspension feel and other aspects, and the airbrake is a real giggle I also spoke to a couple of McLaren specialists and they also recommended the 650S as a real sweet spot in terms of build quality and value for money on the used market.
