A long video about which cars to buy and keep. 12C / 570s mentioned right at the end 26:00

I just did an article on which McLarens I thought would be collectable.https://youtu.be/4epQvqkmvBk
A year ago I was looking to buy and seriously looked at all the options eventually went new 570 route because of the warranty - but tested a MP12 - what a car - in my opinion the best used supercar available - prices are a steal and I am amazed at how low they are - seriously considering buying one at the moment.

Any particular reason you held off a year ago?Cockernee said:
I would think at some point no-one that owns a 12C will want to sell (well good ones anyway). Never selling mine, certainly not for what people are asking for them. Bargain of the century and I am sure there will be a few distressed sellers of all sorts after C19.
One careful owner. Never driven hard. Never tracked. Glad to hear you’re still in love.
Great car!
I'm surprised this hasnt sold, seems an honest add: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202...

I bought a new 570 with the comfort of a 3 year warranty - which has not been needed so far.I extended the Macwarranty when it turned 4 in October and not a blinking thing has went wrong with it...
Although i have decided to keep hold and extend the warranty when it is due, it does make you wonder if you 'bank' the warranty cost and 'self warranty'...could i really spend £15k on repairs in the next 3 years?
They are not all as unreliable as tinternet would have you believe...
McLarens are fantastic fun though....i cannot recommend enough.

They're all awesome though. I'm looking forward to a nicely depreciated 720S when I return to the UK in a few years time

Cheers Tref, I've got a few cars to shift on first. The whole fleet would need to be consolidated. I am attached to the Quattroporte so I haven't had the heart to advertise it yet.
Just seen you have an elan +2 spider. Always loved the look of these. How have you found it? Does the roof work well being aftermarket? I'd love any details you haveEx Boy Racer said:

Hi there. The Spyder refers to the replacement chassis which is a direct replacement for the original Lotus chassis, the car is a fixed head coupe. It’s a cool little car, blueprinted Zetec engine on throttle bodies so around 200bhp and sensibly stripped out so weighs in at a shade under 700kgs.The Zetec engine allows for the fit of a 5 speed MT75 gearbox. The original cars were 4 speed so it makes the cars a little more usable. I have no first hand experience of the original cars so I couldn’t offer a direct comparison. Mine has fully adjustable shocks, Wilwood four pot brakes, integral roll cage etc.
You’d have the originality brigade banging on the door but it’s a lot of fun and the Plus 2 is such a pretty shape. It’s advertised on eBay and Car and Classic if you wanted to nosey at any photographs. I won’t post the link as it will be removed.

Sounds like a good one.You wonder if a buyer of a £65k car can afford to run a McLaren? I’m looking at a new Cayman 4.0 GTS but of course the mind wonders. Truth is while I could just about stretch to this, the running costs would need serious man maths.
Not a problem if you have £100k to spend and see these as a bargain but at these prices they are going to interest a new type of buyer, one on relative shoe string.

Thats actually a really good point - and the answer is a categorical "No". Even if could get warranty on it, the combination of that and the depreciation, and the annual service at Mclaren, would make it a very expensive proposition, circa £16k per annum. You wonder if a buyer of a £65k car can afford to run a McLaren? No wonder people spend their £65k on 911s and R8s.
