Congratulations, 540C is a cracking choice
To be honest your thread inspired me to take a look at the 540C as well as the 12C so it's possibly your fault!! clapbowrofl

Main reason I went with a 540 vs a 12C was the nose lift due to my girlfriends driveway. Also much newer car, possibly not quite as special as a 12C suspension wise but it's a big step up from the Cayman never the less driving
All macs are equally special in my opinion!

Congrats on your purchase thumbup

I'm just looking at my way forward once the car arrives tomorrow. It will need a service mid November and the standard warranty will need extending around the same time. Reading around it appears I need to have owned the car for 3 months to be able to extend? If that's the case I should just fall into the bracket I think? I will be phoning my localish dealer and Thorney once it's here to clarify my options but I'm just thinking that there must be a fair backlogue of work all the dealers are trying to clear so I may not be able to get booked in anytime soon?

I think you need a (paid for) inspection before you can renew the extended warranty? Not sure what the timings are though.

I've not had any major problems with backlog. I wanted soft close fitted a few weeks back and only had to wait a week or two from local dealers I got quotes from. I also had a couple of other things done at separate bookings, and again it was only about a weeks wait.

From what i recall there required to be 3 months remaining in the warranty in order for the transfer over to the new owner, and if the car still under mac warranty it does not need inspected prior to extending, as long as servicing is up to date.

As far as I am aware, the inspection is only required if the warranty has expired and you are looking to put one on the car...costs around £350 and I would imagine they shall be very thorough to limit potential exposure.

Look forward to seeing some pics.

This will be an extension of the standard 3 year warranty so I'm assuming the last few months will transfer automatically to the new owner as it is part of the new car purchase? I will then be able to extend once I've owned for 3 months or does this not apply with the original manufacturers warranty?

When the 3 years manufacturer warranty expires, you'll need to pay for the extended warranty - that's not the quite the same as 'extending' the manufacturers warranty (which you can't do). It's a different warranty with different terms - although still very comprehensive.

Yeah I think we are talking about the same thing biggrin

The current manufacturers warranty transfers to me when I receive the car automatically then when I have it serviced in November I will add the cost of the Extended Warranty to the cost of the service and the inspection is included in the service not a seperate cost? I will possibly go in Thorneys direction but it's a bit of a drive(I know it'll be great but one I'd rather not do with Bell and Colville just up the road!) and I'm guessing no courtesy car so it would be a bit of a pain frown

Sounds like you're local to me if B&C are local to you - my car is actually going there next week for (another) new accumulator.

Thorney is an option - but I have the same issue, that it's a fair distance. Until the car is 5 years old, his warranty doesn't save you much over the extended warranty anyway does it?

No exactly hence my current preference with B&C or at worst New Forest. I'm right down on the South Coast so Thorney is a bit of a jaunt to sit around waiting and I can't see my GF fancying the drive up to keep me company!

As an aside should I have an issue which I am confident I won't does the initial 3 years transferrable Warranty include the Roadside Assistance for 3 years as well or will I need to fall back on my current cover?

Hi OP,

Sorry i'm a bit late to the party here... congratulations on your purchase.

Just FYI, if you are buying the car from a main dealer, you should be getting a minimum of 12 months warranty, at there must be at least 9 months left until the service - this is the McLaren Qualified Standard. So if November it is due a service, they should be covering this for you.

Apologies if somewhere earlier in this thread you have stated you are buying privately - i just thought i'd try and help out biggrin

Since when?

I bought my car in August last year from Ascot - my service was due in December. And I was the one who paid for it!

Thanks for mentioning this but it was not from a main dealer and so the extension to warranty and next service were allowed/negotiated for in the price I finally paid plus it put me in a position where I can decide whether to go with Mclaren or Thorney ongoing.

If the Thorney warranty and McLaren warranty are about the same price for a Sports Series (I think circa £3k if I recall correctly) feels like its a no brainer to just extend the McLaren warranty as I believe that wouldn't require an inspection either as the car is already under warranty. If the car was out of warranty or was a Super Series car thats +5yrs old then the decision becomes more difficult as your then looking at £5k Vs £3k
