Viewed a 12C... question re. possible bodywork damage

Viewed a 12C on Friday and noticed a colour mismatch between the passenger door and rear quarter (see pic). Having read about McLaren paint issues, is this considered normal or, as I would suspect in any other case, could it be a sign of something more sinister (like a repair following a track day 'off')?

that looks either Volcano Orange or Volcano Red. Notoriously difficult to match (actually impossible), meaning that even if you are correcting stone chips on the front bumper, bonnet, or wing it will not match to the rest of the car. I would avoid the Volcano colours for this reason.
A decent bodyshop can match volcano colours easy enough
I believe McLaren use Charwoods and their work is first class. A couple of my mates have volcano red cars that had front end resprays after a euro supercar rally and several track days had peppered the front of cars and I didn't know even when pointed out

That what I thought going by previous posts...however the 2 volcano orange cheeks on my rear bumper had scuffs on them and on the advice of mclarens paintshop in Glasgow, I whipped them off, sent them through to them, they repainted them and I refitted them...the match was perfect.Also last year the wings and bonnet were replaced as they found corrosion somewhere I had never seen and the match to the doors and 'a' pillars was again perfect.
The paint is sent from Woking all premixed and therefore it should be a match.
As you say, different lighting, materials and contour can cause it to look a different shade.
However, there is a crowd that supplies the 'exact' paint from America...how close that is I don't know and wouldn't be very keen to try unless it was a full paint job.

Mine was very light sensitive. In most light - especially bright sunshine - it looked perfect. But in some light it was much more noticeable (although as is always the case with things like this, it's much more noticeable when it's your car than for other people).
At least for me, the McLaren approved bodyshop said they couldn't match it perfectly in February this year. The customer service from McLaren to resolve it was amazing though.

Any McLaren approved body shop will get Volcano colours right. And you can go to them direct. No need to go through the dealer. None approved shop.... hmmmm, may say they can match it, but I am not so sure.
A truly 'good' non approved body shop shall tell you truth in that they won't be able to match it.If they say they can it shall only lead to disappointment.
Only McLaren approved paintshops have access to the supply of the correct paint...bit of a bummer but that's they way it is.
Up here in Scotland means 1 paintshop...but fortunately they are very, very good from my dealings with them.
