Looked like a varied and good turn out.
But fir me I could think of nothing worse than showing of my car ( if it was even worth showing off ). No idea why I feel like that but I do and I would rather be thrashing it round some lovely roads
Yet at the same time I enjoy seeing all these cars and like to have wonder round at car events
Call me weird if you want
But best of luck to this club but I guess it is not for everyone

I get what you mean. It’s a similar argument to why people join online forums and consistently post content to be helpful and be part of the community spirit, yet there are people who only join in with their negativity and spite.

Most if not all owners who attend the events are giving up their free time to share the experience with other owners and members of the general public who enjoy cars. It’s a community thing rather than vanity.

Interesting thread and views.
I joined SSC about 6 years ago when had a poultry Atom. Was a brief membership as I unfortunately only had the Atom for 4 months and made one damp meet in the Lakes. All the members were very welcoming and good crack. Drive was great, tho as expected the lakes roads were a little busy.
Can fully understand that they have to have a line somewhere to prevent spoiling the exclusivity many of the privileged owners enjoy.
Not sure how they could do it without being accused of some snobbery unfortunately.

Unfortunately there are a percentage of the population who don't appreciate the value of some of these pride and joys.
If the public was allowed to such events you can guarantee there would be some that would be trying to get on the bonnets for pictures, and sitting in the open top cars for pics, asking to rev the arse off the cars without understanding that the engines need warmed up etc etc Yes probably a minority but it would happen!

A drive requires a destination. Can be a coffee with mates at a cafe, in a car park whatever. Whenever I go to these events, and I was there, I enjoy the drive there and back just as much but the highlight is meeting your mates and catching up. No one really 'shows their car off' they are parked up and left, we have a quick look around (most people have all seen Lambo's Porsche's and Ferrari's before), and then chat. There are always a few cars that I will look at that are different and the Quattro did get a lot of love. Its about a shared passion its not about displaying that's the excuse for the drive.....

Am I the only one that finds at times these convoys a bit of a risk for unexpected issues, I feel like I more in control when I don't need to pay attention to other fellow owners driving behind and in front.

But I love these events, unfortunately I couldn't make it.

And agree with Evo, I don't like to show off but it's nice when you meet the right people that share just the same passion.

I've been on a few runs - although not this one - and didn't have any concerns over other drivers. I left a decent gap to the car in front - mostly because I didn't want stone chips! - and the cars behind me have done the same (probably for the same reason)

I must be weird as many a time I have gone off for a drive just before sunrise and had no idea where I was going. Just a rough idea f the direction and a timescale of when I need to be back.
I guess we just enjoy driving in a different way.

Just discovered this club and this thread. And I feel the same way. From what I can see, I have three cars on the slightly bizarre qualifying list.

Unlike another in this thread, I don’t feel strongly enough about this sort of club but I don’t understand the need to show my cars off, aspire to have a qualifying car (like a certain YouTuber) or gather in a field with other owners. Or drive slowly / noisily / antisocially in a convoy.

I also avoid so-called “private members clubs” in other walks of life like the plague. I guess I don’t have the right level of status anxiety and they tend to contain the type of person I try hard to avoid.

BUT……..it is fantastic to see the passion that we all have (in our different ways) for our cars. And I guess that joining such a club is just another way of expressing this passion. Great to see.

This, while for some I’m sure it is about status and showing off, most people I’d bet just like meeting and chatting to car enthusiasts and sharing their passion.

I’d never been to a car ‘meet’ until recently but attended one in the spur of the moment. I had a happy 20 mins in the bacon roll queue chatting to a chap about his long list of Fords and the next minute was talking to a guy about the differences between his various 911 GR3’s. There were M3s, pre war Bentleys and everything in between.

Great fun, but I too don’t get the appeal of the one marque clubs, that’s a bit to cliquey for me.

Never been into the idea of car clubs where you meet up stand around and chat for the morning. Much more of a dawn raid type going out for a 2/3 hr blast along some good b roads with a few like minded gents then can have a chat over breakfast afterwards.

Another for Drivers Union if you are South East based. Sy puts a lot of effort into it.

I joined this club also pretty much from inception.

I am though not quite sure what the real aim is although they seem to have a couple of sponsors. Usually someone wants to make some money !!

In any event there will always be a bit of snobbery in any Supercar club with car restrictions, there certainly is within the Mclaren owners club with the Senna and 675LT brigade looking down their noses at us mere mortals with a 720s or less.
I’m impressed they can tell the difference rofl

This SCC club isn’t elitist enough at all, we need a supercar club for owners with supercars, super model partners, not over weight and especially with good teeth. Hate going to these clubs and seeing the overweight poorly dressed people falling out of them.

When will we have true elitism again?!

You’re right, even though I’ve got the body and the teeth I’ve only got a lowly 650S and my girlfriends not a model but a dancer.

At least I know the aspirational level of my future car club.

Never been to one of these events, but I would be extremely dissappointed if there were any McLaren owners looking down on other McLaren owners just because their car is worth a few more bucks or rarer.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to end my participation in this thread by saying that the SCC team repeatedly tried to contact me almost immediately after I wrote to them ( entirely my fault for only picking up the message a few minutes ago ) , asking to talk to me personally .

The fact that the team and the founder responded so promptly shows how efficient they are , and the fact that they tried repeatedly to contact the owner of a rusty MX5 speaks volumes about the sort of people they are .

It only remains for me to wish SCC the very best for the 16th and into the long distant future - all its members are clearly going to be in very capable hands .
Respect.
