Yes, MY = Model year.
And agreed, K denotes MY2019. So yours is indeed the same as mine (also a K).
Ignoring MY, but concentrating on build dates, it seems that sometime between May 2018 and April 2019 there was a software revision released. It would be interesting to pinpoint what build date the software revision was applied. The version running on my previous January 2017 built 720S had the Hot Start function, but my April 2019 built car does not have it. I understand the Hot Start function was removed to comply with some regulations? However, the 2019 is more aggressive through the gears, and pops & farts at every opportunity on downshifts. I’ve also not encountered any of the electronic glitches as I did on the previous 720S. I’ve covered 7K miles since Feb 2020 and it has been great. And agreed, K denotes MY2019. It would be good to know if your May 2018 built car can accept the latest 3.4 software once McHatfield have confirmed with you.
Not sure if this will help, but my car, now sold, has VIN K33**, was first registered 1/3/19 and was probably built December 2018. It has silver swoosh.
At the time of handover in March 2019 it had two features that were not at that time in the Driver’s Handbook. Firstly, lift either up or down depending on current state was activated by a single press of the button on the end of the stalk on RHS of steering column. Still glacially slow but simple to activate.
Second, there was an interim display that came up and remained until the last tyre was up to temperature. See photo taken March 2019 showing all systems off but this hybrid display as evidenced by mph in centre, gear bottom right, but tyre display from Active Sport showing.

For anyone interested, I collected the orange Motion8 track pack car that was mentioned earlier in the thread about a week ago after it completed a service at Mclaren.
Honestly I'm totally blown away. The performance is biblical. So much communication through the steering and stability at speed. Its hard to imagine a suspension setup that can deal with st roads better than this at pace. I do enjoy the aggressive turbo noise but I can see why some would pine for a V10 or a 9k RPM boxer setup. However, you don't have to look far for a specialist that can do a cat back exhaust which totally transforms the car into an absolute screamer (not quite decided on this but doing some man maths..)
I've been bracing myself for a myriad of niggles but so far, touch wood, its been rock solid. The way people respond to the car is also so relentlessly positive I'm finding driving it a really fun experience even in town. Kids are delighted, thumbs up from van drivers that would have cut me up in my GT3.
Would encourage OP to get one bought if funds allow, no regrets whatsoever here. Quite honestly at this price point it feels like stepping into something that should have cost me twice as much.

I’m still keeping an eye on the market and in different times I’d have the Mac sat in my drive but with the economy and more lockdowns etc I think I’ll hold out until spring and see where we’re at then. Money doesn’t come easy so I need to make the right choice plus I wouldn’t actually get much use over the next 6 months
