A good few months ago McManchester were getting slated on here for a terrible purchasing experience. Seems things are on the up and have changed.

Did I recall reading about a change in management or was that another dealership?

I saw that when I went to look at mine, it is absolutely stunning in person, photo's don't do it justice.

A LOT of money though with huge depreciation potential. Not many people out there would be willing to lose 100's of 1000's on a car, in what, 18months?

Deposit of 120k and 2 years of 4k per month...216k for 2 years of ownership and 12,000 miles! Wow

I bought my 570s from them 3 1/2 years ago, and I got a personalised picture, McLaren umbrella and 1:43 scale model of my car, the service was impeccable.

Maybe they lost their way, or it they've had a clash of personalities on a couple of 'influencer' sales, but the good service and gifts is nothing new.

The video in question was on a YouTube channel yes but was reporting on their friend’s ownership experience which was a hugely different experience to the OP’s and your buying experiences.

“Lost their way temporarily” might well be a fair comment.

I see said YouTuber has released a Hallowe’en special entitled the “Truth About Buying A McLaren” to finish of the above saga.

^^^^ THIS exactly. If you listen to Jay emm, he claims he’s not biased and just offering a balanced view, but all throughout his videos he makes generalised and inaccurate negative comments about McLaren. The last video, apparently you can’t leave a McLaren for more than a week without having to put it on a battery conditioner. That’s exaggerating and he knows it. Then apparently, when McLaren sent two people around to his friends house, one the Head of Customer Liason, that wasn’t good enough for him and his friends, why? Because they turned up in a car that JayEm and his friends didn’t feel was good enough, it was a BMW. I think that gives a good idea just how difficult his friends may have been to deal with. Don’t get me wrong, McLaren and McLaren Manchester did make some errors, but they’ve made a meal of it IMO.

It’s a shame, in the main I like his channel. I’m not sure what his motive is with these videos, maybe it’s like TGE, ie he’s just not been given freebies or something from them that they think they’re entitled to as they’re “youtubers”, Or what I think is more likely, he’s being intentionally controversial to get traffic to his videos, the more views and comments (even if negative) the more money he gets from them.

So don’t go and watch the video/s or comment on them, that benefits him and what he is likely trying to do, best bet is to give them a dislike / thumbs down as I believe that affects his rating. Then maybe next time he’ll give a more balanced view. Car manufacturers are struggling as it is, we need our British based companies to do well, to help our economy post COVID and brexit, these unbalanced and intensionally controversial social media posts do nothing but damage the business and their reputation, misguide potential buyers and line the pockets of the people creating the controversy. Again, balanced feedback about what they could do better is valuable to Mclaren, but plastering it over social media and sensationalising it is not!

I watched the whole video and I agree with the battery conditioner comments.

However apart from that, what else was actually inaccurate? His BMW comment could be taken either way (it’s a small point but can see both sides of the coin) however the guys turned up and didn’t provide/discuss what was expected ( i.e. a compensation package) and what followed was terrible right until the end when finally, after what 10 months the cars were finally sorted? The video also states both drivers would consider further McLaren purchases if the current service was maintained which is surely the result any car company wants.

In short, this highlights a terrible buyer experience for two owners - you can’t deny that. The problem is you don’t see many/anyone making videos of when everything goes really well when buying a McLaren which is possibly 95% (or greater?) of the time. It’s a video that doesn’t fairly represent most experiences.

My experience with the battery was the total opposite; never once had it on charge in 19months and the car lived outside in all weathers.

Never had the window issue either but every single McLaren does according to him.

Usual 30 minutes of dross that could be squeezed into about 90 seconds.

Agree. The problem with this particular youtuber are his attempts to extrapolate isolated items into generalities, not only about the cars but also about the business, exposing his particular lack of knowledge of either. Not just for McLaren, btw.

Hi gang.

What are the collective thoughts about the MSO Fistral Blue 720 at Glasgow on Autotrader.

Any history on the car. Thoughts on spec and colour.

Thanks.
Andy.

They apparently keep scooping best McLaren dealership awards.

The team there are fantastic from Anita when you walk in the door right up to the top man Lee.

Definitely recommend.
