Prices are a bit all over the place at the moment...it may be sensible to hold off a little to see what happens in spring.
I was sent this the other week...was almost tempted to get back into a 650 for a bit, but am trying to sticki to my own advice...

Apart from one being a coupe and the other being a spider, yup, it might just be the same car.https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Well I have to say after pondering long and hard, that unless a miracle car comes on the market, I will probably go 540/570. The warranty cost for me doesn’t justify the extra performance.
My dream car would absolutely be a 650s spider but it would push me too hard to get the warranty as well.

Are you comparing a 650S spider to a 570S coupe? like for like a 650S spider is £10k less than a 570S spider and at £1,500 pa warranty difference that pays for 7 years of warranty discrepancy. Bear in mind if bought from McLaren both will come with 12 month warranty anyway? Cheapest McApproved 570S spider = £99k. Cheapest McApproved 650S spider = £90k.....????My dream car would absolutely be a 650s spider but it would push me too hard to get the warranty as well.

+1.I agree that the extra performance isn't really needed - especially on the road - but that's not the only difference between 540 / 570 and 650.
Personally, I prefer the looks of the 650 inside and out - it's one of the reasons I went for that rather than 570 when I bought. But, you also get the other super series benefits - suspension, rear spoiler (air brake is still my absolute favourite thing!).
Nothing at all wrong with 540 / 570 - but given the cost of 570 spider vs 650 spider currently, I'd definitely be buying the 650.
I couldn’t afford a 570 spider sadly. My concern would be renewing the warranty every year and the comparative renewal costs -please correct me if I’m wrong by isn’t there a substantial difference? So not the first year as ideally would buy one with a warranty, but the years after that.
And the air brake is absolutely my favourite as well!

What's the deal with the older 2011 12C's coming up to being 10 years old vs warranty and corrosion warranty?
I thought I read both could not be renewed after 10 years but could be wrong?
The extended warranty can be renewed up to the car being 10 years old - and hence the car can be warrantied until the car is 12 years old. So even 2011 12Cs can be under warranty until 2023.I thought I read both could not be renewed after 10 years but could be wrong?
Corrosion warranty is a different thing though - I'd be surprised if McLaren rejected the claims given that it's a very well known issue, but who knows.

About £1K / yr additional? And the air brake is absolutely my favourite as well!
On top the suspension keeping the car planted on bumpy roads, the low end torque, the burst at the top of the revs and the active aero, then a 650 spider gives you - well, a spider! With the additional benefit of dropping the back light so YOU can enjoy the sounds.

I understand from Thorney that the original paint supplier has been changed so if you have a panel resprayed, it won't/might not be from the original paint supplier.
So does anyone know if when a panel is repainted today, the original cause of the paint issues is rectified and will no longer occur? Or is a re-painted panel still prone to the same issue in the future?

I believe that the paint composition / supplier was changed to address the problems with fading on volcano colours, not corrosion issues.I understand from Thorney that the original paint supplier has been changed so if you have a panel resprayed, it won't/might not be from the original paint supplier.

If you take your car in for bubbling / corrosion, McLaren don't paint the panel - they replace it, and paint that. I don't know if the same problems occur on the new panels / paint.
To my knowledge, my car has never suffered from this issue. It did have a full respray courtesy of McLaren last year due to fading and looks fabulous, so I hope it's not an issue I suffer from.
