I'm considering a 675LT and have a question re McLaren warranty.

Can anyone advise on the annual renewal rate via McLaren, and also at what point isn't it possible to extend the warranty on these cars?

Super series warranty cost is £3,980 for up to 5 years old and £4,981 for 5-10 years old.

You can buy 24 months at a time and save ~£100. But, if you renew warranty just before it's 5th birthday then it's worth buying 24 months because you can get both at the reduced rate.

Warranty can be applied to the car up to it's 10th birthday - hence, you can warranty a car for 2 years just before it turns 10 and hence it will be warrantied until it's 12 years old.

Yes just did 24 mo for £7.5k on a 650 just prior to 5 year anniversary.

I'll be doing the same with my 12C, 2 years warranty just before it's 10th birthday! smile Expensive, but worth it

Related warranty question.....

Im looking at a 720 for sale from a dealer outside the McLaren network. Car is very nearly at the end of its 3 year factory warranty.

So it would be up to me to extend the warranty. But, in practical terms how is that done? Do I need to have the car inspected by McLaren first or if the factory warranty is on the cusp of lapsing is it basically just a matter of sending them a cheque?

It’ll be due it’s annual service, get the service done just before the warranty expires and then extend the warranty. If the original warranty expires, you will need to pay for the pre-warranty inspection.

Thanks, how close to warranty renewal does the service have to be for McLaren to accept it as 'renewal worthy' without inspection?

Surely having the service done (with McLaren) within the Warranty period is the inspection for the extension ? As soon as that's done would be the time to pay for it to run from the date the original expires.

This is what I would have thought but I don't know if they are funny with cars being sold outside of the network.

If it's still in manufacturer warranty - and has followed the service schedule - I don't think it should make any difference at all who's selling it. But I think you do need some kind of inspection, because you're moving from manufacturer warranty to one provided by a third party - albeit the official extended warranty. If the car is due a service at around the time you need to renew, then I'd expect it to be covered by that - but if for some reason the last service was ages ago, and the next one won't be due until afterwards then I'd expect you to have to get it inspected.

not at all, but if it did they are very expensive, so it's total piece of mind!

If my 12c experience is any help I've been warrantied for 2 years and had virtually nothing amiss. One or two minor things done at service last year were under warranty. Peace of mind is worth good money though.
