I'm thinking of not extending my warranty.

I've had 3 issues, (two of which are minor, only in the hundreds), and they've not paid out on any.

1) New wishbone needed = £3000, not covered due to wear and tear.

2) Rubber around the wheel-arch falling off, a few hundred to repair.

3) Dirt getting in and building up under the PPF.

Don't quite understand how 1) and 2) are not covered.

Not sure why it wouldnt be covered, you just bought the car. Did you manage to transfer the warranty ok? Mine were done recently when they replaced front shocks under warranty.

Also Extended warranty.

How an earth was this not covered, I've heard others refer to this as bullet proof warranty but clearly not.

I understand that it would be considered wear and tear I'd the car had done 50k+ miles however, I'm assuming it's a lowish mileage car so this would be considered premature wear surely?

V strange as I had both upper and lower arms replaced due to perished bushings last yr all under the extended warranty, car had about 20k miles at the time.

I purchased the extended warranty last year from McLaren Birmingham, where I bought the car the year previous. So no issues with the warranty being transferred, etc.

It's a 2017 570GT - 23,000 miles.

The service chap at McL Birmingham assumed the wishbone bushes would be covered, but called the next day to tell me the warranty guys said - 'no, wear and tear'.

Not sure what to do. It passed the MOT and is not an urgent fix, but will need sorting at some point.

The warranty is due for renewal in April, so to extend that and pay for the wishbone would be around £6,000. I'm having a hard time reconciling paying £3000 to fix something not covered, and then fork out another £3000 at the same time.

I wouldn't refer to the warranty as 'bulletproof' in my experiences.

I mean i'm kind of on both sides of the fence here, you wouldn't expect the bushes to go at 23k as its not really that high mileage but at the same time the cars no virgin.

Considering they were the supplying dealer only a year earlier I would have expected at worst some good will against it, and at best them to pick up the bill - dependant on the mileage at the time of purchase of course.

Mines having this done at thorney before I collect (dealer paying) - both sides are about 1500 from memory - the difference between an indie and main dealer ...😬

On inspection by thorney The bushes on the car I’m buying we’re revealed to be squeaky at 9000 miles. Both sides about £1500 I think (dealer paying)

While mines been away there was noticed to be a squeaky bush on offside rear which has been replaced under warranty. I never noticed it myself!

Being objective I wouldn't have been suprised if a perished bushing was considered wear and tear but perhaps the fact that the whole arm needs replacing if the bushing is gone is why they replace under warranty? All work undertaken has to be approved by the policy underwriter so given its the same company that provides the Mclaren extended warranty I'm not sure how there could be a variance in the treatment of perished bushings.

Just to update on the issues I had earlier in thread I finally collected my car yesterday. Had a chat with the technician and the root cause of the issue was a faulty cam actuator, this caused the exhaust valve problem and then they needed to replace head gasket as top of engine has to be taken off. A very uncommon issue and they thought it might have been faulty from day one but just got worse over time so perhaps just a tad unlucky on that one. Still it was 30 hours labour and a frankly eyewatering bill if I didn't have the warranty! All seems good now the car sounds much better at idle nice to have it back...renewed warranty as well £3500 as the car is now 5 yrs old...I hope there'll be minimal claims on this one!

Is it possible a dealer could try to charge for border line warranty work assuming the customer doesn't complain too much and then go on to make a claim via the official McLaren warranty and effectively achieve a double whammy ? smile

You must have much bigger balls than me to not insure your house in order to save £600 per annum...there are many things i wont insure, but never my house.
I was reading up on the McLaren warranty posts and I came across this comment.

At 75 I guess I am at the opposite end of life to many of the posters on here but that means I can look back on decades of experience to comment. We have always insured our house so thats 55 years worth. And the cars and the boat and SWMBOs jewelry. So thats 55 years of not a single claim on the house insurance or 55 years of wasted premiums. With 3 cars you could say 165 years of insurance and in that time one £660 claim. 30 years of boat insurance, which at least in cost terms is reasonable, and again no claims. And my wife hasnt lost any of here jewelry.

Sure some of this is down to living in a country area rather than suburbia and some is down to not taking silly risks. Nevertheless, thats a lot of wasted premiums.
