I'm a little surprised the MOC doesn't have an open page and/or forum for buying and selling. I'd love to be able to go on there and connect with any owners - it's always better dealing directly, enthusiast to enthusiast.
I think most people who are in the closed group are also on the open Mclaren FB pages, if someone was to post am looking for a "570s spider X Spec private buyer" it will get picked up and owners made aware am sure.

Funny enough I bought my recent 650s Spider via PH via a MOCUK owner via another MOCUK who knew this chap was trading in his car, so if your looking keep the feelers out there am sure something will come up.

I would say both times Ive bough Macs its taken months to find the right car!

Does anyone know what’s up with the Philip Ireland car? It looks a decent spec/money to me but has sat there for months now.

1) Lack of Carbon Interior. When I had mine, they were almost unsellable with the cheap silver plastic non carbon interiors.

2) Awful standard wheels. Almost all later wheels are so much better.

3) Almost zero carbon. No carbon wing mirrors, roof, front or rear diffuser, engine bay, interior, seat backs, wheel arches, wing mirror arms, air brake.

A driven car with a few miles will be a better car.

The obsession with carbon fibre on cars always fascinates me. Carbon fibre accoutrements have no functional benefit whatsoever, just an aesthetic effect more than anything and so much importance is placed on it by buyers, vanity at its ugliest. (I need to qualify this by saying that carbon fibre structural construction does have benefits, I am referring more to things like door mirrors, diffusers, sills, side strikes etc)

My car (not McLaren) is dripping in carbon fibre, but that is not why i bought it, nor was I aware of how dripping it was since I bought it without even seeing it in the flesh, (I did see some photos, but was “sold” without paying attention to how much carbon fibre it had), or driving it! Had it not been dripping in the stuff, I would still have bought it and I would still love everything about it.

So, if you are buying to keep, use and enjoy then a less than dripping in carbon fibre car may be a good option as will be a little bit cheaper. It will be just as fast and drive just as well. Unless carbon fibre is your thing….

My car has the interior carbon - which I think suits the car well - but nothing external. I'm not a fan of external carbon so didn't bother me, but according to some posts on here it does mean my car will be worthless if I want to sell it.

I specifically chose to not have exterior CF on my 650s. I didn’t want to deal with additional costs in case of bumps/scratches.

Absolutely wasn’t an issue for me either. I really like the dark palladium finish as well.

Which for the op's benefit is significantly cheaper than trying to add at a later date.

Whilst it seems it might go against the grain with the above comments and recently purchasing a 570s, i wanted carbon and as much as possible, not because of vanity but because when i come to sell i know i am going to try to get kicked in the nuts on price if wasnt optioned. After looking for a while, the "lower" (note the inverted commas before i get flamed, its a turn of phrase only) spec cars were definitely cheaper and hanging around on the market, any "high" spec were sold quickly, so just giving myself the best possible chance of selling.

It is a self perpetuating thing. Still don’t understand it. Bit like the mad rush for bog roll at the first lockdown, didn’t understand that either. With CF it is just odd to attach so much importance to something that does nothing.

I absolutely love the carbon bits! different strokes for different folks as ever. For a buyer like myself it is a really big draw. I love the carbon door panel inserts or the sill entry points, looks so much nicer that matt black plastic which is the alternative.

From an observational point, it does seem to help in the resale game.

Well guys you have all really helped me and understand more about this wonderful Super Car, I'm now in the market and looking at 4 cars over the weekend, here is hoping my lovely wife can get in and be comfortable, she really was quite poorly a few years ago and still suffers from her oops.. 😳
So hopefully it's a lot smooth ride than the TVR. 😉😉🙄
Thanks and keep telling us, that have not been so lucky in owning one..

Personally, I agree and also disagree with most of the comments on CF!

How many people have actually sold their McLaren's privately in recent years?

I've sold three now and I can tell you that most enquiries pretty much start and end with;

- Does it have a warranty?
- What Carbon options does it have?

Very little discussion about anything else.

I recently sold my Napier 570s that I spec'd from new. I made the decision to go with Carbon Interior as 12c's without it seemed almost impossible to sell. I went with Carbon Mirrors too but no more. I decided to spend money of things to make the car more unique like MSO Napier paint, calipers, switch gear and key backs etc. It's very easy to tick a few boxes for carbon packs and the price jumps significantly. The reality is that once you are more than 2 feet away from the car you can't tell if it was palladium or carbon........it might be fractionally lighter but nowhere near enough to warrant to eye watering costs charged.

I think you need a minimum amount of carbon to give the car a decent spec but I wouldn't, and didn't, go mad and tick all the boxes as it's money down the drain immediately. You may sell the car quicker but you will still have people telling you there is a car £15k cheaper somewhere else, even if it's list price was £35k less than a highly spec'd CF car........

When I bought my car the carbon interior with the paddles was a must have as for me it raises the cabin aesthetic and the carbon paddles have a nice quality feel to them. Exterior I was OK with the palladium as it looks fine as is, the new cost of carbon Fibre on the exterior is nuts tbh.

I think you are spot on with the "essential" carbon bits, if it didnt have those bits you mentioned i didnt look twice and the exterior bits are just ridiculous money.

I seemed to get the feeling whilst looking that because the 570s was the cheapest Mclaren, new buyers didnt go too nuts with the option list as it pushed the car way to close to other models on price, i guess you have confirmed that as a new buyer. I guess i was lucky with mine, as a press car they had pretty much put every carbon option available on it, the only thing it hasnt got it is a carbon roof. I would disagree about the 2 feet bit, the carbon bumpers, particularly the rear is very noticeable from a distance, not so in photos though.

Care to elaborate perhaps the PH massive can help you decide.
