Currently an owner of Granturismo for past 5.5 years and looking to treat myself next year for 50 th birthday.
Car used for high days & occasional holidays, circa 2k per year to transport myself, missed & 8 year old son.
Would an FF be a big step up and worthwhile given the approx £60k cost to change or should I stick with the Maser?
I love the looks & sound track to the GT and the admiration it gets from other petrol heads. I know I need to get out & try an FF but don't want to waste mine & others time if the general consensus is stick with what I have.
Maybe there is some kind sole near me in Northants willing to meet up who has an FF?
Thanks fellow petrolheads.

Mark

I too feel the need to mark my 50th with something automotive. But I could never let my GT go.
Plenty of cool things you could buy for the additional 60k. 911 targa? Continental GTC? A California?

There are a few PHers who have gone from Maser GT to FF and not regretted it (they have chimed in on the other FF threads).

I think the general consensus is that the FF is dynamically far superior and the engine note is better laugh (and I happen to think that the Maser has one of the best soundtracks out there) but whether that’s worth the price to change is a personal value decision.

Until you drive one, you won’t be in a position to judge but for sure, you won’t be wasting the seller’s time as the FF is better than the GT in every way except, perhaps, the looks but even that is starting to grow on people.

fwiw I had a Granturismo for 5 years, beautiful car, lots of character, one of the best sounding cars ever made, handling is "OK". FF has the Ferrari V12 sound (although you may feel you'll need an aftermarket back box to get the same volume as the Maser in Sport mode with the valves fully open), handling is "good". I decided to change cars because I had my fill of the Maserati and I needed to tick the V12 box. No regrets but glad I owned the trident car.

I wonder if the build quality on the Ferrari is better than the grancabrio i had brand new (bits of the interior fell off regularly)

I’ve had both (well I still have the FF which I also got for my 50th).

The FF is worth the money. I actually personally prefer the Maserati GT sound (marginally), but in almost every other respect (possibly not “prettiness”) the FF is a materially better car and just more special to drive.

Pretty sure i've seen you around the SportsMaserati forum? Didn't know you went to an FF. I went from MC Stradale to FF over 3 years ago now and refuse to change now, I love the FF and have no idea what to buy so it's staying.

I also loved my Stradale too actually and I think the noise, with a bit of Larini tweakery is unbeatable. But I think it's alos because the cabin is not as well insulated so you hear far more.

Added Novitec back boxes and the Capristo remote controlled X-Pipe to the FF and it sounds bananas. But still quieter insider than the Stradale.

The Maserati still represents insane value for money, they really should cost more than they do. But the FF is a league ahead and I think the general marketplace and regular petrolhead is finally waking up to them. A V12, 4 seat, 4WD supercar for £90-130k, bargain (of sorts).

Yes, I was active on the SM forums for a while. Agree re Larini on the Maser. Don't feel the need on the FF, though I will be doing the valve remote which I also had on the Maser. It is amazing (and sometimes disappointing) how quiet the FF is inside, when you're blowing the eardrums of anyone outside nearby...

Mine is in storage now, I got some brand new silver Speedline wheels on eBay for £1600 and I've thrown MPS4S's on them, at the moment its still got the scary P-Zeros but will be changing wheels in March.

I went from our 4.7 GT > AMG GTC for my 50th, missed the howl of the GT so recently added an ‘18’ Vanquish s volante, the V12 is a most have, only thing ive owned that sounds better than the GT.

I’m not a ferrari fan really but the FF looks weird to me, F12 looks much better to my eyes, plus peoples reactionbto a ferrari is very different to a Maserati in my experience.

Maybe consider a 2014 vanquish v12?
