After a couple of chats with informed local owners today, it is believed that indys can still get parts from Mclaren direct, not the dealer network.
Can Thorney get parts from McLaren direct? John?
I don't mean that in a bad way mind you, but when he posts stuff like this I don't doubt he's thinking of his customers (with a healthy wedge of JT thrown in)
But he did win Come Dine with Me

Not sure why haters want to hate. Can't think of anyone else that has tried the hardest to make McLaren ownership possible for those without the big wallets. Taking business risk and investment on a car marque that is very hard to work with is not for the feint hearted.
I would be interested to know what the haters have done to improve McLaren ownership for others.

Surely the dealers also won't be happy to lose however much profit they make off part sales?
I assume that, without a supply of parts, Thorney's customers will have to use the official network of dealers. Thorney had probably negotiated a discount with whichever dealer was supplying them due to the volume of business so, in theory, the dealers will be supplying the same parts at a higher margin and increasing service hours sold in their workshops.ralphrj said:

McLaren, like many companies, are having logistical issues.
They need to prioritise official service centres and owners, which is logical, they can't have their own service centres short on parts.
If you want to go to an independent you simply get a list of parts and buy them yourself.
That is if it is true, not saying it isn't, but as far as we know no other Indy has received this communication apart from Thorney.
But, McLaren don’t need to prioritize supply to dealers. The parts are already with the dealers. Thorne wrote that McLaren are forbidding dealers from supplying them, rather than McLaren not supplying third parties directly. They need to prioritise official service centres and owners, which is logical, they can't have their own service centres short on parts.

Copy and paste from Thorney below
McLaren Automotive have instructed all of their UK dealers to cut off the supply of parts to us

Wow this forum never fails to deliver.
Someone posts an unsubstantiated statement from another forum… queue outrage from tyre kickers (“potential” owners) and non-owners alike and now demands for a policy statement on the matter.
I think McLaren have higher priorities.
Higher priorities above looking after the customer base at all levels ? Please elaborate what you think they are I would like to know. Guys I don't really see the issue? The servicing costs at Mclaren are no different to those at Audi or BMW? Have I missed something? And to be honest would you want an unknown Indy working on your Mac? Plus sometimes you get a 200k courtesy car, not many indy's offer that
