Which of their 720s are you looking at?

Also, holy thread resurrection, Batman! I reread my last post. I was obviously thinking of buying another Porsche at the time, but I'm blowed if I can remember what or why. Or, come to that, why I didn't buy whatever it was. Anyway, I've had two other McLarens since that post, the last one from Hatfield.

Judging by the number of thread resurrections you’re quite excited hehe

Go and get in there you’ll love it.

Ha, yes a bit excited. Started off by definitely going out for a V12 Vantage 7spd manual. Ended up popping into Ascot and they were very keen to get me into an unreg Altura or GT. To be fair I had gone to look at GT's. But the more reading I did, the more I could see the relative value of a 720S. Then started to look up at Spiders as there didn't seem to be many downsides on them unlike soft tops.

Spotted this car when it was £180k. Recent reduction plus just serviced it. Been on stock since Nov after it was traded in for a 750S.

You all know more... am I being mad ??!? It's a silver swoosh, McLaren serviced reasonable spec lux with warranty. I like the leather seats and wheel having tried GT's.

I think my wife is gonna say WTF. She wanted a new Conti GT or Aston. But I had a massive stroke in 2021, at 46, surviving plus regaining driving licence has me on this journey to do some stuff I definitely wouldn't have before... but a V12 is also lovely.and less shouty.

(Murray Walker voice) Unless I'm very much mistaken, that's the OP's previous 720S Lux Spider you're looking at

I have a 720 Spider in Belize Blue, it is beyond stunning.

Sadly not driven it with the roof down yet as bought in late November. I love it and have a number of trips planned for this year.

I love owning a Ferrari, but I suspect this might just beat it. Having said that, I've started watching 458 videos and so can't wait to get it out.

I drove it yesterday on a 30min test drive. Ok, so it's a struggle for words to discuss exactly how fast it feels. I drove there in a 400bhp vehicle. An extra 320bhp, but 500kg less weight, was beyond epic. It was life changing fast. My superbikes feel just like this.

The most confusing thing was how well it rides..it really does glide over poor surfaces and potholes and anything really. Settles down to be a really useable cruiser. I've driven GT Porsches, Aston's and everything in between on this search. The 720S just makes them all feel stiff, under damped and unresolved. I say confusing again, it's such a mind mess as you grimace expecting to be shaken to bits on a given bit of road and it doesn't.

So that meant I became more comfortable quicker than in anything else. Didn't feel big or wide and even narrow country roads were a doddle. That again was odd because it looks intimidating. The big long bonnets of Astons take a while to settle with. This feels go kart sized.

Finally steering. Sublime. Lotus Elise feel and weight.

I think I will struggle to have anything else.

Driving a DBS Superleggera, DBS V12 Manual and Vantage V12 S 7spd Manual today. Might try the Vanquish manual too. Wife wants to try them as she like the interiors.

But I think there will be time to come back and do one of those later in life. The 720S spider has set a higher benchmark than expected. I forgot to say, the mechanism for the roof is amazing, silent and quick too. 2 cars for the money.

A friend says exactly this of his. He's raced and owned a selection of sportsbikes and M cars and a Bently, but couldn't believe how ou can overtake in a 720 like on a bike.

I gather he's now riding a Morini and a 70-odd year old Enfield

The DBSS is the best looking Aston from the current generation but it struggles to put all that power down! Also consider the Vanquish S and Rapide AMR for the best of Aston V12 cars from the previous generation

I had a 2019 Vanquish S for a while, really didn’t like it, owned at the same time as my 720, GTR, S63 cab and Aventador and it never got used vs the others, all the others did what they did better than the Aston, unless you love the Jane’s bond thing vomit

Lovely pictures.

Oh so torn. DBS Superleggera was brutal beast. Stunning to look at. Tried two different ones and the 8k miler was beautiful in and out. The noise was bonkers good. It did wag its tail a couple of times at some big numbers, which surprised me, but the weather was foul and it’s got 900nm. Came away knowing it needed respect and not to be ham fisted with it. Rides well and would cover ground well. A lovely GT and I kept looking back at it as I walked to the:

The V12V S 7spd sounded the best of anything I have tried. Took me a while to get clean heel and toe changes on the way down the box and dogleg would take some learning. But the noise. It was an ex Aston company owner car and works have done some lovely quilted alcantara to the cabin recently for big £££. Felt better than others I had seen. Was a heart car. Grabbed me in a different way to the others. And the noise, did I mention the noise.

I’ve hardly slept over the three cars. An absolute privilege to drive all three. 720S was life changing in ability to add speed and its technical ability to cover ground. 2 cars a for one as a spider and wow to look at. Astons both grabbed me in a very different way. I think I fell in love with them on soul. What a decision to have to make and 46 years of saving…
