I have a similar “dilemma” every weekend, but with older cars. Drive the V12V or the 650s spider. The V12V is a genuine mechanical manual and sounds great. I love dramatic mechanical heel and toe downshifting (unlike in the S manual auto matching is not an option). And a lovely interior. Gratuitous photo below.

But I haven’t driven it for months. It just feels so under-engineered. Impossible to get the full power down, terrible bump steer. Since I’ve had the Mac, I’ve become a bit cynical about AM and the Italians’ story. Is it really engineering in a raw feel - or just raw engineering?

The Mac sounds even more ferocious than the V12V with the top or backlight down, changes direction with a flick of the wrist, keeps all four corners planted on terrible roads. And the pace!

I confess to partiality, since I have Macs and Porsches, but not an Aston. I like the look of the new DB12 and the infotainment seems like a step forward, but it's an 1800kg car. The DBS "superleggera" (ha!) is pretty well two tonnes. It's different kind of thing - a GT, not a supercar, even if it is indeed a very fast GT. I will say of the V12V that although they sound epic and look good, they don't seem very fast. On a recent tour I had my restomod 964 cabriolet - fancy suspension, a 3.8 with 300-ish HP, 1350kg - and was in company with a V12V roadster. I was not finding it that difficult to keep up, particularly under braking and in the corners. I suspect the extra half tonne and fairly agricultural suspension design (as the owner, who is on here somewhere, described it) was not helping the Aston. I was not in any real danger of seeing which way my other friend's 720 spider went, though.

The Astons are fast cars. The 720 is bonkers. Properly, properly bonkers. Unless you lose the argument about shoe count (the boot space in the Astons is superior, and in the DB cars you have "rear seats" as well) buy the 720. You can buy the Aston when your age starts with a 6; I plan to. But while I can still stay on top of the McLaren - for a given value of stay on top - that's where I'm putting my "top car" money.

Great posts. I’ve not pulled the pin on anything yet. Off to Ascot today to try an Artura, GT and to look at a 720S. The Luxury one at Hatfields is still available too. I keep feeling like I’ll look more of a £&#* in the Macca and the noise of the V12’s was very very lovely. Nice dilemma to have. Garage was cleared out to make space over the week…

I can't comment on your self-image, but FWIW I've only ever had positive feedback from others when I'm in my bright orange McLaren - it does seem to be a brand that people respond positively to.

Nothing but Thumbs up and waves in the Mac, they do make people look and stare unlike some other brands

Tbh it applies to most supercars, I have 3 (& one classic) and feel a bit of that in any of them if I ever go near crowded places with them, attend a race event of some kind I don’t feel that way, isolation on country roads (where I spend most of my time) and it’s much better for me.

Zero people around mine is where I’m most comfortable with them or sharing actual drives with other supercar owners on perfect roads

I have to be in a certain mood for the more extreme ones to, an everyday supercar that doesn’t attract too much attention is the AMG GTR and the one most useable for my demeanour. Wouldn’t part with the others, all get friendly attention though where I live tbh, the 720 is 2nd only to the Aventador, I’d list ours like this:

Aventador
720
Testarossa
AMG GTR

Although friendly, a completely different reaction to other beautiful classic stuff we have..

But yeah, Mecca, no issues with reactions, probably very different in certain areas of Uk tho..

I wouldn’t worry about what you look like in any car. Buy it for you not others.

I assume I look like a middle aged tosser, but who cares I bought it for me to drive.

Not had the 720 long but I have noticed that people tend to spot it and when I fill up the clerk in the petrol station general comments and it’s positive.

My 458 is grey, I thought this would go under the radar like my grey 430 did.

I was wrong, people seem to notice it and I get a lot of thumbs up and waves.

I don’t like attention and there has only been once when I felt very uncomfortable but it turned out to be very very friendly.
