Thanks for this mate. Have messaged the owner regarding this. You can transfer to a new owner for fee, which he is covering. However he is checking on the time frame with mclaren. Cheers
Would be interested in what you find mate. IIRC when I bought a McLaren I looked into this and I believe the T&C's were that there needs to be at least 3 full months of warranty unexpired in order to transfer to a new owner.deeps said:
I was just telling him the truth, they've lost a 720s sale.
I think it's a McLaren thing, I've heard they've been inundated with repairs and are now wriggling out of anything over 5 years old, unless it's a McLaren dealer supplied car with a fairly long term owner.
I wonder if McLaren have sorted the corrosion problem on their newer cars, I suspect not.
I totally love this car but potential bubbling paint issues would be enough to make me look elsewhere, as said Lambo most likely.
So have you asked the dealer to provide an email chain to that effect from Mclaren, have you spoken to Mclaren themselves to challenge them on the decision, the body has a 10 year corrosion warranty, where you bought it, how long you have owned it is absolutely irrelevent, especially as you seem to be in knowledge of longer term or dealer bought cars having work carried out. Seems very alien to me to just roll over and accept it based on what you have said no matter how minor the repair is, i certainly wouldnt.
All in fairness my local dealer didnt even get involved in the corrosion warranty (although they highlighted it), i was sent to the Mclaren approved bodyshop they use who evaluated the repairs and they were the ones who had it approved by Mclaren, not the dealer, sorry i think your dealer is totally pulling the wool over your eyes.
Hey all. Thanks for all the info and concerns. Have found out from McLaren that correct, you cannot transfer warranty over within 3 months of ending. The current owner has now extended it for the next year and we will then transfer over when I collect. Some panels have already been replaced under warranty fortunately

McLaren have a 5 year paint warranty, and a 10 year corrosion warranty. The corrosion warranty states very clearly in the owners manual that it covers perforation.
Bubbling of the paint is not perforation.
McLaren did - until recently (6 months or so) - fix pretty much all bubbling, no questions asked. But it seems that for cars over 5 years old, it was goodwill. And that has ended.
They are now only doing this for cars under 5 years old - and they are not even giving a 5 year warranty on that. Get you car repaired 2 days before it's 5 years old, and spot (unrelated) bubbling 1 day after it's 5 years old? Hard luck - it's out of warranty now.
Whether it's right or wrong, whether it would stand up in court if challenged I don't know or care. But it is a fact. There are numerous posts on MOC about it, even from owners who've previously had panels replaced and now can't.

Mine has had some panels replaced too, but beware they do suffer so have a good look around. Apart from that, a fantastic machine!davek_964 said:
I don't really use PH these days, but will comment on this.

The annoying thing is they are fantastic cars, but I am now very wary of buying another because I don't want bubbling paint at 5 years old. I wouldn't accept that on a Ford or Nissan let alone a 200k car. Plus the repair process is diabolically slow and drawn out, I wouldn't let them have my car for 6 weeks anyway, unless they supplied a like for like loan car, which they won't (I did ask during my claim refusal).McLaren have a 5 year paint warranty, and a 10 year corrosion warranty. I have a July 2018 570s spider which has just had both front wings replaced and PPF restored (due minpor corrosion).
The job was done well, quickly and with no fuss.
Agree with the statements here that fillform corrosion/paint bubbling is covered for 5 years only. A repair, AFAIK, is covered for 2 years.
This is a real shame as I've had this car a year and its been great - but this corrosion issue will probably mean its my first and last mclaren.

Well, to update this thread… I picked the car up 10 days ago and have already put a faultless 1000 miles on it. This thing is addictive. What an amazing car.
Also got very lucky with a private plate, CC are my initials.
Stunning, I hope you continue to enjoy it! It's a shame you're no longer in the York area I'd love a look in the metal. Also got very lucky with a private plate, CC are my initials.
