What would be the 'must have' options when looking at a 570s / 570gt? Most that i have seen on AT do have the carbon interior pack and some with the upgraded bower audio system. For the exterior, would people look for the carbon front or for it to be Dark Palladium including the roof?

Also, can anyone review the base 4 speaker sound system, is it ok or worth it to get one with the Bowers & Wilkins?

Thanks

For me nose lift is an absolute must have. Carbon interior is nice with the extended paddles. Security pack with reverse sensors and camera also very handy. I'd then pick colour, wheels, interior next. Sports / MSO exhausts etc can be retrofitted if needed

I've got the standard speaker system and honestly have no complaints. I listen to a lot of music, podcasts etc and it's fine. I guess it's personal though, it wouldn't be a must have for me but to some it might. I don't think you'll ever get a brilliant audio experience in a car. I had the premium audio in my V8 Vantage and didn't find that brilliant either.

Have a slight gremlin with the driver window dropping when I lock the car (not every time) , I need to get back in and close it then it’s fine , some pics to follow.
This happened to mine after the detailer washed it, water ingress into the external door switch. As Grey_Area says, the touch sensitive lock button just behind the door will close the windows. Sorted itself out once dried out, but occasionally just randomly drops halfway when I lock it anyway.

I think Justin's summary is spot on. Lift, reverse cam, carbon paddles are all important. A lot of the rest is personal preference, eg do you prefer an alcantara or leather wheel. I'd want heated seats in a spider, but accept that means you sit slightly higher up than the non heated/manual adjustment seats which I'd probably prefer in a coupe.

Generally the forged superlight and ultralight wheels are more desirable than the base 5 spokes (although personally I prefer the look of the 5-spokes). A few dealers made a point of this.

There is a lot of preference for the brighter and exciting exterior colours, especially the volcanoes. They do look fantastic. But colour is again very subjective and I prefer black.

Obviously the 4 speaker-8 speaker-B&W stereo progression will get you noticeably better audio. The base 4 speaker isn't actually that bad (as good in my experience as bose in porsche) but it does sound st if you like heavy music. I do, and I cannot listen to Metallica etc . (Found the same in Porsche with bose). It's acceptable for lighter music/general radio etc. The B&W will handles this much better, but you are still sat in a small carbon tubbed space and limits how good it can be. There's a lot of other sound in the cabin, engine/ exhaust/tyre/wind that corrupts the stereo sound. I wouldn't discount a mclaren that is otherwise right for you based on the audio. But perhaps would if I was buying an S-class or a RR etc, as they are better set up with space and sound deadening to make the most of the audio quality. Plus I am usually in the mclaren to drive, not commute listening to music.

Some folks just don't use these cars much. Yes, you'll take a hit if you use it, but it's not THAT much more expensive than a higher mileage car and you're getting a car that will look and feel like new. Just run in ready to be driven properly biggrin
Thats a good way of looking at it actually. I'd just be a bit cautious of it being sat around for long periods for the last 5 years.

On a similar note, I plugged my details into Motorway this week. 2017 540C, 15k miles. The initial 'reserve price' or valuation was £78k which I thought was pretty reasonable and decided to progress through the whole motion of submitting photos, service history etc. My highest bidder was £72k which I guess being unseen was not unexpected, but almost 10% lower than Motorway had predicted.

I'd imagine a dealer would advertise it for around £85k looking at the spread on autotrader.
I was offered very similar for mine Justin from the main dealer

Might put it into motorway and see what it comes back with

Agree with what's been said above. Basically the Security Pack is a must have, nose lift, parking sensors, rear cam. (These could be ordered separately but nearly all cars have the pack). You can't see over the rear quarters to reverse, so need sensors and cam. And in a situation when you need the lift (eg bottom of a ramp with traffic behind), you really need it. Plus I think it's hard to sell on a car without.

IMO that's the only must have, the rest is personal preference and to some extent making a car coherent.

The carbon interior trim and extended paddles are on most 570s, probably worth having the longer paddles. The interior carbon is nice but ultimately frippery.

Not that many cars have carbon on the outside, personal preference really. It would probably make me worry more about the car to have carbon extremities, but it looks nice and does carry some value I think.

I have the 12-speaker system, IMO there's too much road noise anyway at a steady 70mph, which is where I listen to music. If I was buying again I wouldn't care how many speakers a car had.

Wheels I wanted forged for the unsprung weight saving, which most Ss have, although many GTs are on the 15-spoke cast. There are double-five, double-seven and two different ten-spoke forged designs, matter of personal preference although the 'bent spoke' ten spoke is the absolute lightest, all the others are pretty close together I think.

Interiors vary quite a lot, can be one colour or two, with or without contrast stitching / belts, and leather or alcantara. Ideally check out a few to decide what you prefer. Same with paint colour, you need to see a colour in the metal to really decide how you feel about it.

I would have preferred the lower manual seats, but ended up with electric as virtually all GTs have them, but not an issue.

My GT has sports exhaust, but I believe that's the same as a standard exhaust on an S. It seems like a decent compromise, not too loud on cold start, but you do hear a good growl when going for it.

Bottom line, ensure you get the Security Pack, everything else is personal preference from a fantastically wide range of colours and trims, part of the fun is the variety between cars, and taking your time to find the one that you personally like.

Do all the 570gt cars have ceramic brakes ? Isn’t that another pack to consider if they’re on someone’s wish list ?? Standard on the 570s..

540C all iron
570S all ceramic
570GT iron 2016-17, ceramic 2018-20

Cars with standard ceramic brakes could have iron as an option from new, and some have been changed subsequently. But generally it goes more by model year than by individual spec I think on the GT.

The intake button solved the window problem …never even knew it existed…this car seems to get even more attention than my old 570S!

Does anybody know if the reverse camera display when put in reverse shows on both the dash and the infotainment system, or was it changed over based on model year? I have seen a few cars photographs show the reverse camera display and seems to vary on which screen so im wondering if it was changed later in production.

Mines a 2020 and it was on the centre console but recently changed to dashboard I believe. This was done before I bought the car.

No idea why anyone would want it on the dash, it’s a terrible position to have it. Start reversing back, turn your wheel, now you can’t see the dash view of where you are going!

My old 570s had it on the central display camera quality rubbish that was an early car …my 2020 LT has it on the dash display much better quality camera but it can be hard to see it when steering is locked …I think it may have changed in 2017 as that’s when they went from the 3 panel dash display to the single dash display.

Sounds like one of those decisions where an engineering team who'd never driven the car was told to improve the image quality, and it was cheaper to put it on an existing higher res screen than improved the touchscreen. Right up there with Maserati putting the fog light switch in the centre strip, but the fuel cap release in the glovebox where the wife couldn't reach it from the driver's seat.

I've always thought it was very stupid that McLaren put the manual keyhole on the passenger side of the car. There is always going to be space to open a door on the drivers side, for obvious reasons - but you'll often be parked close to a garage wall or something on the passenger side - which is not helpful if your battery goes flat.
I suppose it makes sense for LHD cars (assuming it's not swapped to passenger side on those).

Strange market. The three most expensive 600LT spiders on here are all private sales.
