Anyone have an outlook for old Sports Series range?

The difference is there no matter how you look at it,,,
Yes with a Spider! The 50kg saving from a coupe is a difference none of us will ever feel!
Yet the difference you can feel with a Spider is game changing, back window down very important on a 600 LT due to placement of exhaust, then roof down with a panoramic view of the world, Spider hands down every time on a carbon tub car.
I'd only buy a coupe if I was a professional racing driver and only using the car for track days, though the fact is on track most of us won't feel any difference between a coupe / spider Mclaren yet on the road the Spider really is for me the hands down easy choice.
For me I enjoy the three different aspects of driving the car, roof up, back window down, roof down, in all three scenarios the car sounds totally different and gives a different experience.

Indeed I was surprised by the difference between back window down and roof up and then roof down …such a visceral experience !The 50kg saving from a coupe is a difference none of us will ever feel!

Spoken like a true Spider owner , each to their own I suppose The 50kg saving from a coupe is a difference none of us will ever feel!

There are trade-offs with a Spider. A little more weight, a little more to go wrong, a little less luggage space, the extra shutlines visually breaking the arc of the A-pillar/header rail.
These trade-offs are less than for rival cars which lack a carbon tub, where the open version carries a stiffness and a more significant weight penalty.
There are also obviously definite advantages of being able to open the roof and experience the sensations of driving more directly; and with the McLarens of being able separately to drop the rear window.
On the Sports Series the Spiders carry a premium over the Coupes, partly just by being newer but also because people want the drop-top.
It's up to each individual how much value they place on the pros and cons of each variant, and also how much they're willing/able to pay. I struggle to think that there could ever be a 'right' answer here, given that some people never want to drive in an open car, and for others the ability to drop the top is central to their enjoyment of driving.

Not sure if I’d be in a Mac if it weren’t for the rear backlight/top down. Sounds better inside (where it counts) that way than my V12 V, previous F355, 992 loaner, Gallardo among others. With everything closed, it sounds too industrial. And to me, quoting 50kg as a difference is just pub talk.

What part of the world you looking at when youre driving Im mostly looking at the road.I would certainly say Mclarens pull off the spider thing way better than most, looks as well as no performance downsides, but i dont think there is a spider/convertible version of anything that looks better than a coupe in my eyes.
Not sure there is a right or wrong answer here but certainly looks like people are more than willing to pay the premium for having the spider variant. I have been keeping an eye on the 570s spiders at the main dealers and this week have seen some that have only recently come on the market and Hatfield and Birmingham now showing sold at £117k, £122k, £125k. If I recall the new price difference between coupe and spider was around 10% so it looks like the spiders are maintaining that premium if not exceeding it now in some cases on the used market.
I am personally a coupe guy as I would rarely drop the top so a spider would be largely wasted on me but cant really see too much downside to the spider even if it is just to drop that rear window and enhance the visceral experience.

Well ownership doesn't really cost you more after the initial outlay. If you buy a 3yo Spider and keep it a couple of years you aren't likely to lose more than you would on a comparable coupe.BlackR8 said:

Less numbers for the spider to? Better residuals?I am personally a coupe guy as I would rarely drop the top so a spider would be largely wasted on me but cant really see too much downside to the spider even if it is just to drop that rear window and enhance the visceral experience.
like you say, no drawback to the spider so a no brainer if money isnt an issue, easier to sell on as a broader market as ‘coupe guys’ can leave roof up if they want.

I viewed this before buying mine.First of all it is Mclaren Orange, not Helios as described.
It was stored in a dusty unit blocked in by loads of cars and covered in dust, that was six months ago, it has probably not moved since and it looked a poor example when I viewed it, by now it won't be any better, worse no doubt.
Worth 130k tops I'd say, no warranty, probably been sat for a year plus, screams a car with plenty of nightmares to unleash on a potential owner, did not like the outfit either, he had a lot of super cars but the location and condition of unit/cars I'd be worried about buying a 10k shopping trolley let alone a super car.

That looks really good, great stance somehow. And yeah I would've been equally happy with Volcano Red myself if a car had come up in that colour, there was a 570GT in VR at McBrum which came and went rather quickly.Implus1 said:
Interesting - I did note it has been on sale since June last year I believe. I think it should still have the 3 manufacturer’s warranty given it was registered in June 2020?
Yes it will have warranty but go view it and I’m sure you’ll feel something feels off about the dealer and car. Car has clearly sat for months on end which could cause issues but it could also be fine but the fact it’s not even advertised as the correct colour makes me question and have doubts.
The outfit just did not befit supercars but maybe it’s owners personal own collection I just remember viewing it and been disappointed by it been McLaren orange and not Helios and then to see the car just covered in dust and looking sorry for itself. Battery is probably toast and as cars are designed to be used and this has sat for months just rings alarm bells for me.
Go check it out as they’ve had it a year or so and as such maybe a deal can be done.
