Cars with the high road tax need to be a lot cheaper.
I don't care if I am buying a used £1m car. I am not paying more than the £185 bracket for road tax ever again.
I also will not pay the £7k+ difference between a 2016 and a 2017 car.
I assume you are ignoring the £355 premium you pay for years 2-5 on cars listing over £40k, otherwise your window for car buying is cars registered between 1 April and 11th Dec 2017. On the plus side it grows by the day I don't care if I am buying a used £1m car. I am not paying more than the £185 bracket for road tax ever again.

Interestingly, AT listings suggest asking prices are heading south whilst available numbers are going in the opposite direction - figures from 14 months ago in brackets:
540C coupe - 18 available, lowest price £79,495 (3, £84,999)
570S coupe - 42 available, lowest price £77,995 (7, £89,995)
570S spyder - 38 available, lowest price £99,990 (13, £114,950)
720S coupe - 42 available, lowest price £131,995 (13, £144,995)
540C coupe - 18 available, lowest price £79,495 (3, £84,999)
570S coupe - 42 available, lowest price £77,995 (7, £89,995)
570S spyder - 38 available, lowest price £99,990 (13, £114,950)

Seems so odd to me the 540c has only "lost" £5k compared to the others at £10k plus.

Edited to add: I can pay 6 months for £286 or 12 months for £342.50 - so it must be half & half of some kind. I think from it's 6th birthday it is the cheaper rate.

My car was registered Jan 2017 and costs £630 for the rfl yet had it been registered 01st Aprll I would be paying an awful lot less for the same car.
I still wouldn't choose or rule out a car based just on the road tax though.
Only this year. Once it is 6 the tax is cheaper.I still wouldn't choose or rule out a car based just on the road tax though.
I've been keeping my eye on the McLaren GT market and there's some really nicely specced ones sun £120k which represents incredibly value against the similarly priced 570 Spiders. Aside from the obvious loss of the open roof which is a big factor for some, surely you're getting a lot more car for the money?
