with regard to the volcano yellow at NF, whist ever it is in one of the best colours it is very low spec, no exterior carbon, no front lift (mentioned) etc
The ad declares 'Security Pack', which includes Nose Lift right?
Also from the ad

I assume the little logo visible on the lower stalk with the car outline and up and down arrows means lift?
(just checking)

In terms of spec, I see lift as vital and interior carbon trim/paddles as something I definitely want, both of which it has. Beyond that, it looks mostly like gilding the lily to me? Soft-close doors can be retrofitted if you find you need for ~£1400. The standard seats are very comfortable and supportive, and manual ones go a bit lower than electric I understand. It doesn't really seem like the sort of car that needs audiophile hifi, but that's very personal, a bit like colours. Exterior carbon trim doesn't seem that common - I can see the argument that a car with it is worth a bit extra. Yellow car has sports exhaust which people recommend, although I'm not 100% sold on noisy exhausts wink

So from my point of view the yellow car has what I'd want, I'm not sure I'd pay much more for many of the other options personally, although I imagine others would.

A lot of chat on various threads about "buyers" waiting for values to drop before they jump, all the time potential owners are missing out on ownership and driving, which is the only reason to buy a car like a Mclaren, if you want a safe bet and cant afford any depreciation, buy a Porsche GT series car.

If a car is in budget, just buy it and enjoy driving it, its what a car is for!
I agree with getting on and enjoying life. Also, timing the market is hard, easy to wait forever for a crash that's just around the corner.
On the other hand I feel like the market is in transition right now, giving up some of the rises in value seen over the last couple of years, as shown by some significant price drops. In this situation some cars offered look a lot better value than others.
So my conclusion would be yes get on and buy, but buy wisely, look for those cars whose prices are (re)aligned with where the market is going, rather than those priced based on where it has recently been.
That way you can enjoy the autumn, and are at least mitigating any further falls which may or may not occur.

Not to be taken the wrong way, but it seems really odd to spend money on a car, that when new was probably a third if not more of the value of the house it sits outside. Especially on an asset which is effectively dropping money daily.

This seems to be a mindset I see more and more on here, and Facebook etc.

I don’t think I’d sleep at night with out a double garage to roll it in and lock it away, and I’d always be questioning my self that I could probably live somewhere uhh nicer.
Quite a judgemental post …what is the correct car to house/net worth ratio then?!
Don’t know really, that’s why I asked. Maybe it’s a generational thing. I was a child of the 80’s and 90’s and had it drummed into me that you invest in the best property you can, the cars will come later.

I if I’d bought a car worth anything more than 10% or 20% of my property value, my family would think I was insane.

Missed the security pack, apologies.

If its the right spec for you, buy it, i appreciate what you mention in other threads about reasons to delay but personally you are missing out if its the right car for you.

You have to ask, will another come up at the same price/spec when the "time is right"??

Deleted previous comments. I really don't have to justify my finances to anybody on here.

I had taken a break from PH, and in the last couple of weeks was gradually commenting posts again. Thanks for reminding me why that is a bad idea - I'll go back to primarily ignoring the place.

But then, if everyone spent all their money on property, they'd have none left to enjoy.

Assume you feel that same about holidays, watches, any other enjoyment...?

I'd also argue the 650s is fairly frugal motoring. Reasonable service costs and almost depreciation proof.

No need for that post at all

I think the car/house discussion would be better taken to a separate thread on Supercar General, that way it could be an interesting general discussion without (a) taking this thread off topic and (b) starting from a point of criticising someone else's life decisions.

davek_964, thank you for sharing, I really appreciated seeing how others do it.

It's a question I've asked myself, yes, especially as I would really prefer to buy approved used at this time, which is obviously a minority of the market.

In terms of spec I'm not too particular, VY is one of about seven colours I'd really like any of, and most cars have the lift and interior carbon I want. In the last couple of months I've seen a Volcano Red 570GT with lightweight wheels come and go quickly, and a Vega Blue 570S, both at McLaren dealers, so I'm not anticipating an entirely monochrome market in January.

In terms of prices the most likely situation IMHO is that a £95k car today is ~£90k in mid-Jan. I wouldn't wait three months to possibly save that, but equally I don't feel like prices are rising and I'll lose out by waiting until I can get my new car into the garage. I absolutely accept the possibility that prices will be higher in Jan. If the market ends up being back at £105k for a 'typical' coupe, I'll pay that.

Good idea, would make interesting reading.

How can you tell what his house is worth? Could be in central London and worth a fortune. If it isn't even more respect, this is a petrol heads forum and that is a great example of how to enjoy your passion. Everyones circumstances are different and that is a really unnecessary post!!

It would be great if we could take any further feedback/discussion of the ordinary house, extraordinary car topic to the new thread for it now open, and leave this thread for further information and opinions about values of Sports Series McLarens smile

When i was looking, Feb/March 2021 there were roughly 20 ish coupes and spiders on ph, 40 ish on Autotrader and you are spot on, they halved by summer on both, i think ph was down to 12 at one point.

Currenly 253 Mclarens total for sale on PH and what can you buy new from Mclaren at the moment, i dont think we need to worry about over supply.

Just going to come back to this a month later:

Roughly the same number 570 coupes and spiders for sale as before, but 236 Mclarens overall for sale on PH.

I guess you can read into that what you will, without studying daily i would say the market is still turning over cars, if you take it as 17 sold, thats 1 every other day, but thats probably just my man maths, haha.

The way I see it, a 570 would never be worth less than an equivalent 12C (I know they are older), even though some will say original/magic suspension etc. Most buyers would value the more modern model at least as much. So where are 12C prices going? In 5 years time will they be £40k or £70k? Crystal balls all round please?

Personally I guesstimate my 570 will be worth £70k ish in a few years, so if it is worth more I'm happy. The more Smiles the better as far as I am concerned.

Maybe a bad decision but I pulled the trigger on this MSO Volcano Red 600 LT Spider, absolutely love it!

People go mental over the colour, but I love it, like liquid at night at so much colour shift/change.

That was my precise philsophy when i bought my 570s last year, prices on the 12C looked stable and if my 570s dropped to those figures i was comfortable with that depreciation.

Agreed, that is a lovely combo, i really dont like black diamond cut alloys (a modern pet hate for me) but with the blacked body inserts they look just right, beautiful red! Grats thumbup
